WaitWHAT?
You start off in lava and you have to rush out of it towards Morph ball.
Seriously, that's not "hard", that's borderline impossible. Literally.

It sucks, really. Sadly the screens you showed/linked show screens which look much more better. But this is just as a SMW hack with an invisible ledge where you have to do blind jumps.
I honestly advise you to tweak around a lot. I couldn't get past the third room. There is yet another lava-filled hole (you cannot get out once you are in, at least not without the Hi-Jump Boots (optional; Varia Suit while taking damage).
Nothing against challenging hacks. But some key things should include:
- Giving the player enough to room to maneuver, at least right at the start. This includes enough space for jumping, long enough rooms instead of short doom traps.
- Fairness. Getting past several screens with tiny height and very damaging lava before any save room/energy recovery is not fair.
- Beta testers. You are the creator, you want the people to earn the items - that is not the problem. But you know things, you may be perfect at infinite bomb jumping, getting the perfect navigation room message in Metroid Fusion (shinespark), but others like me are average, didn't finish the game originally without any game over. The difficulty level goes up much more than you self might expect. |

First off all, I was a normal player when I started this to. But I did not give up when I did play this. I also made this in test of how many people who is "actually" interested in retard hard ness. Not to many what I can see, Wonder why a lot of people make retard hard SMW hacks then. Any way back to the point.
No I have never got to the secret message in fusion. I have never even got 100% in zero mission. Nor can I beat fusion with 10 missiles, I am not a uber awsome metroid player. I just tend to not give up.
Now for the sake of saying I did put this up for feedback and I got that. People think it sucks. But hey it IS feed back. ^^
This was just a test hack. I do not think I will work more on it any way. But I can't tell.

Negatve feedback is also feedback. It still is your hack, nobody forces you to do something, but often you'll see the point what the people don't like. If one person out of ten complains about the appearance of a certain enemy he/she doesn't like, you'll be unlikely to remove that enemy unless it cannot be avoided or is really just a minor thing in a game.
And as for being honest or not. This is a game, so it might be another thing if I come up with a comparison:
In real life, if I know someone, I tend to say opinions directly, in a non-damaging way (think about your girlfriend and similar, things can get hard in certain situations - especially when being together for a longer time).
Of course you cannot do this when having problems with someone in a higher position than you (chef) easily, but in terms or ROM hacking being honest is the only way.
It's up to you if you even give out demos, showing screenshots only or if you just release the full version. But is it not easier to change things in a hack in an earlier status with more negative feedback than finishing the game and nobody seems to like it ?
You might be angry about the wasted time and effort if you are the only one playing this game.
As said, I am only one player and no expert and have different views. Their is no perfect hack at all, DW:TLC, TSRP2 (two well-known SMW hacks) may have superb gameplay, but even these can be flawed.
Your point to ultra-hard hacks is right and the same as in your case:
People have great ideas, want to surprise the players with new levels, forcing them to use more skills in than the original game - what is not a bad thing.
First, you know the level since you built it obviously, then you test it hundreds of times to check balance, debugging and such -> So it just get very easy for yourself and just rush through later.
You might wantto raise the difficulty level, because it _seem_s too easy for you.
But even until then, no player even has seen the level yet, so must judge from your skills and the knowledge from the "average" (or in your case, expert) gamer how easy/hard the parts should be made. The same applies to hidden items. You have a cool idea hiding a missile pack or somethin; I need to think to one or two of those in Metroid Zero Mission which drove me mad really, but if a good player takes them without any problems and places a lot of items that way, it will be an annoyance for some the players later.
It is impossible to satisfy all players, but you should just see that thread as constructive criticism ... if people say "it sucks", hey write something I also wouldn't like if I was the hack creator - but often they give ideas and point out what they don't like or what could be changed, without sacrificing your own idea from the hack you want to create.
So, ask for beta-testers beforehand. I think this is a better way prior to releasing a major demo or the final version. Get people you trust, they usually go ways you never would expect, see flaws, find bugs faster and you even have good hints. They may like to test games before they come out; you name them in your readme/in-game credits, they feel happy and good. Of course, people only glaring to have their nickname shown in a game, but nothing contributing sucks too. Depending on the people the game also shouldn't leak to the public, with still unfinished levels/bugs and such. |

Wow, I do not know what to say...
Any way I want to point out: This was not my main project. (It seams you think that it is) Merely a side thing to try out the editor.
I do have a idea for a big Zero mission hack. But it will probably never be done. Mainly cause I work better with super.
And I did never feel sad/mad or any thing over the feedback. I knew this was to hard for most. Heck some thinks are even a bit to hard for me even. But I did beat it, Cause I never gave up. I think alot people do after dieing 5 times. I mean for me I did die like 40 times before I did come to kraid. And in kraid I did die even more.

That's crazy talk.
If you have an idea, you could at least take a slight attempt at development. There's only a few MZM hacks at the moment, so an addition to the MZM hack list wouldn't be too bad. |

Well, there's nothing wrong with a super-challenge hack as long as it's marked as such... some people like that sort of thing, after all. (Not me, though )

Crazy or not. I' am in the middle of a big super metroid hack.
In order to do this hack the game have to start in zero suit. I also need to change samus to a guy. (Cause the main character is not samus) And a lot of other shit.
Most parts of the game is all ready made up in my mind. It even have a extremely well made story and plot. But yeah, Like I said: Will probably never happen.
