well, Im not entirely sure what you want me to do to my level . Did you want me to try to get rid of glitches? Because I don't know what glitches there are . And by the way, the night and day idea sounds great! But for some reason the video isn't working...

Edit: Ah! I remember now. You wanted to see what I could add to my mod with the new features of the base patch! Ok then, i'll try to find some time to do that .

Ops, sorry, I ended up removing the video because there were a few things I wasn't satisfied with.

Here's a few updates of what I've worked in the past two days:

- I have now a first "Master ROM" set, in which you can walk through 4 initial screens and also access the "Flat Lava Land" level.

- Now the 'Universal Solidity' behaviors accept Param1 as a scaling value. The value is multiplied by a 4 to get the final scaling - ie, to get 200% scaling, divide by 4. So, in that case Param1 = 50, or in hexadecimal, 0x32). If Param1 = 0, scaling isn't affected. Depending on the size of the object and the scaling value, you'll have to use the "Universal Solidity for Bigger Objects" behavior.

- The night-day cycle works, but the effect will only look really effective when we have the backgrounds ready. On some areas, the music will change to a calmer one (probably Piranha Plant lullaby) when it's night .

Celux: See if you can explore some of the new behavior stuff. If you want to test the new scaling behaviors, just send me a .ppf patch of your WIP levels.

Cool stuff messiaen, I'm just wondering wether the N64 had any render command for modifying any color values drawn (though I have to admit that I'm not too familiar with that stuff, perhaps it's possible by altering some drawing behavior of SM64's objects, too), i.e. one that darkens all vertices. That would add a bit of realism to the day-night-cycle.
However, I know you're just at the beginning in these kind of discoveries, so just keep up the good work!

You gave me an idea! Usually there is a color setting for each triangle group (just think of all the Mario color codes), but since the main Flatworld terrain consist of just two giant triangles, I could adjust the lightning (make it darker or clearer) acording to the time of the day. I just need to know better how these RGB values work .

Take a look at this Mario Kart 64 Custom Track video to see a cool effect you can get working with polygon colors.

Celux: I think I can get you the 'water splash' effect for your level, I was experimenting with water today and this should be simple.

Here is a second take of the day-night cycle, now with BigBrain's suggestion implemented (before anyone asks, this is not possible on regular levels, just on Flatworld):

Wow, your progress is amazing Messian! I love the day and night cycle, but does it change if you're just standing still, or haven't you done that yet? And the scale tool is just what I need! If it's not any trouble, please patch my canyon level to that mod:

Celux: Here is your patched file: koopa_scaling.ppf. The scaling behavior is 0x5730. To use it, just follow the instructions in my previous post. I also included the "water splash", right now it's on the entire terrain, later on we'll define a smaller rectangle for this effect.

I uploaded also a scaling.ppf file, which is to applied over any level built from the base patch. It will enable this behavior scaling (0x5730), to access it you must input manually this behavior by holding the Alt Key before clicking on "Behavior". Very big scaling values may cause problems with the collision distance, I will try to improve on that.

Omnimario: Nice, how is your progress on it? If possible, send some screenshots or a .ppf patch to me in a personal message so I can take a look at it.

About the day-night cycle, if you stand still nothing will happen, it's going from one area to another that will make the "time" advance.

It may be unstable and a work in progress, but so is this entire mod, yet there are still screenshots, videos, and PPF patches. Just show an image of what you have done.

Just finished fighting off a wave of attacks on my computer, so haven't started the new level yet. :/ The file is corrupted so I'll just say that I don't recommend using the tilting behavior or else the glitch will occur.

I can't seem to change the behaviour to 0x5370, it just turns itself into 5730. Is this because the patch you gave me doesn't have the base patch, or must I have an option selected?

I suppose you are talking about the koopa_scaling.ppf, which is your WIP level with this behavior enabled. First, remember to toggle the "Hexadecimal setting". Also, whenever I say 0x5730, this means (in Toad's Tool interface) h5730, 'h' meaning that it's a hex number.

You'll see that I used this behavior on the mushroom platforms, so it will automatically be on the Behavior list as h5730. Just tell me if you have any problems/questions.

Sweet, it worked! The only downside is that it doesn't show the size change in TT64.

Edit: One last thing, could you tell me how to disable the water splashing feature you added? Its good, but its annoying when I'm testing my level. You could add it again later when I've given you the finished level.

Open your ROM in a hex editor, go to offset 0x1214FEF and then change "44" to "42".

On Hex Workshop, it should look like this (red byte is the changed value)



I'm working now on a water level template, with some objects from Jolly Roger Bay . Are you interested in doing some sort of level with "Islands" Celux? I have a feeling that the scaling behavior will be extra useful in this one!

Thanks Messian, but for some reason, In my hex editor I found it at: 1214FEE|00|42|00|01 (Of course, it still worked). And sure, I think an island level is a great idea. I would be quite happy to make it, and yes the scaling will be a huge advantage!

Edit 11-21-08: This is driving me nuts! I'm up to making the area outside the canyon but whenever i put a block of land down, Mario falls through It! Do you know of any code to stop this from happening?

Sorry, just saw your edit now! Which behavior are you using? You can send me a patch that I'll see what's happening.

Today I worked a bit more on this hack and connected a few more areas for Mario to walk. After we have some levels ready a first beta might be a real possibility. In the last two weeks I worked a lot with the music format, and since many other games use similar formats (variants of the Mario64 one) many songs will be imported from other games.

Blaster, are you still working on that cave level? I really need as much help as possible if we ever want to complete this hack.
