Messian, I downloaded the hack and patched the rom. My PJ64 was already expanded, so I did not have to do anything. But for some reason when I am playing it, I get to the save slot selection and start a new save, the game whites out. And no more game. My eeprom got all messed up, so I lost all my save files. Maybe you know something of this?

BTW, I love the music selection for save select. Seiken Densetsu 3 is one of my favorite games part of one of my favorite series.

Great job messiaen, I just played the hack and I really enjoyed it!
I only got 5 stars yet, as I finally must do some work, but I'm really keen on looking for the other stars.
What I'm especially curious about is the source code though, the only thing that'll be even more awesome than the hack itself

I feel like I definitely have to leave my thoughts on it after playing.

Well messiaen, congratulations on completing the first complete SM64 hack. It was very well made an fun, reminding me of just how much I loved the original as a kid. I like the idea of the overworld having X number of stars in each area and you hid them all cleverly. The day/night system was also done well and I liked how it wasn't just a cosmetic effect and how the time of day actually changed what stars were obtainable. The different music tracks were very nice as well and I especially loved the Kirby music during the Koopa the Quick race, even though it was over fast. I also loved the final battle and what you did to it. I won't spoil anything about it, don't worry.

The follow criticisms I have are based just on what I saw while playing, not my own knowledge of what's possible to do with SM64 now. A lot of my criticisms could be no good since I don't really follow SM64 hacking much.

The camera was a consistent issue though I can imagine it's tough to get it to work correctly everywhere. Often it would not move in a full 360 degree fashion and I would have to hit the opposite C button a bunch to get it to rotate the other way so I could see. While annoying, there weren't any real areas that it hindered gameplay. Another thing is just the objects in general and how they don't always look pretty placed against each other, stretched around, rotated, etc, but again I think i remember reading that importing objects is tough and I can imagine how tough it really is to move around and line up 3D objects. Working in 2D is sometimes hard enough.

One last thing I would have liked to see is more variations between areas. Most areas were grassland areas with houses built in them. A few more different texture sets if possible would have been very welcome.

I'm very impressed and had a lot of fun playing. I'm definitely looking forward to your next hack if you do another.

Wow, your game is so wonderfully designed. I love the day and night circle and how tasks differ due to day time. Also, the star counter is really useful especially since startup screens aren't supported, yet.

Thanks for your comments, FirePhoenix! I see your point with the camera being an issue, because it actually only works on the original game because there are tons of hardcoded positions/turns, and this is one set of data we haven't found yet. I should add in the readme that the camera buttons are much more needed in this hack than in the original game.

Many graphics limitations (mainly bad texture coordinates) are because of the limited way this hack is built. I should probably add in the next bugfix release a disclaimer in the readme explaining how insane this hack is (anyone who tried to edit a 'flatworld' level will understand it heh). At one point, I decided to ignore many of these limitations and see how far I could go, otherwise there wouldn't be a hack at all.

As for textures, I suck at it . If someone has a recommendation of a specific improvement (underground texture, I'm looking at you), feel free to contact me.

Some stuff is pretty simple, it's really handy working in C . Once experienced hackers/programmers get interested and we reverse-engineer more object functions, we'll see some awesome stuff happening.

Your eeprom is still intact, what happens is that PJ64 recognizes this as an unknown ROM so you can't use your save data from another SM64 ROM (and neither you should, because the hack was designed to be played from the beggining).

Wow, someone actually recognized the file select song . I have never played this game, but I heard it on vgmusic.com and I though it would fit.

For people having trouble loading the ROM: PJ64 can be stubborn about extended memory, try enabling it again (remember you'll have to do it after the ROM is loaded, it's the only way to access the ROM Settings configuration).

Which of the songs did you compose? I do not recognize every tune in there coming from other games, maybe I already missed it without knowing. ^^

Eh, just found something funny.
At the area where you get if you follow the "town exit" sign, there's the moving platform at watchdog (uhm.. hope that's the correct translation, what I mean is the black spherical thing where you need to stomp three times on the center thing...). If you jump on that moving platform and stay on it until it "leaves" the "level box" and press against the "level wall" when you notice that you get pushed back, you'll stay in the air until you stop pushing against the wall.
Hope this is understandable :-/

EDIT:
Just got the 38th star and won the final battle. Was awesome, thanks for the work you invested in this messiaen

It's the night theme that plays in the initial city area and Secret Woods.

BigBrain: that was already reported and I just fixed it, there was a mistake in the last coordinate of that moving platform.

I think it would be better if you wait a few days before I release a bugfix for some of the problems in the hack, which includes changing some of the text. Afer that, I'm ok with it, as long as you still distribute in a patch format and with the original readme files and link to the 'official' site.

Did you use the ROM extender on the rom before you patched it?

I finally got it working!
It looks awesome! But I have a tiny problem...
There is slowdown in areas.

I understand this is due to the N64 hardware, however.

Just to point this out, Mario cam zoomed out is the best camera mode in this hack. Because it helped make the jumps a lot easier, especially from the trees and such.

I think I'm going to play the hack again one of these days D: I ran through it a little too fast...

What I really love in it is music used here. Especially the one from Zelda(finished playing it yesterday...).

Could you list all of the songs? I know a lot of them, but some, like the undergrounds, I have never heard of.

lemme take a stab at that

Title Screen - Good Egg Galaxy
File Select - Seiken Denetsu 3 File Select (Secret of Mana?)
Main City Area - Moo Moo Farms
Inside Mario's House/Koopa's House (Night) - Piranha Plant's Lullaby
Metal Cap Area - Looping Stairs
Wing Cap/Metal Cap/Boss/Lethal Lava Land/Final Boss - SM64 songs
Abandoned Shack (Day) - Forest Maze/Geno's Forest
Abandoned Shack (Night) - Milk Bar (Majora's Mask)
Koopa's House (Day) - SMB3 Athletic
Koopa Race - Butter Building (Kirby)
Secret Woods (Night)/ Main City Area (Night) - Original composition by Messiaen
Outside City Area (Day) - Zelda's Lullaby
Outside City Area (Night) - Starfox 64 Boss B
Underground - Boss (Adventure of Link)
Secret Woods (Day) - Flower Gardens Athletic (Yoshi's Island DS)

I think that's all of them.

(Also, as a side note, personally I preferred it when the entrance to the underground was in the volcano, because while it was more out of the way, it made more sense to me).
