Ever since I was young, I would collect coins that were either really old or had a different sound to them (like the silver quarters and dimes, when you hit them against a surface, they make a different sound than a normal quarter) just in case later down the road, they might be worth something. Most people don't even notice what change they hand you at work, and I've gotten most of my old coins that way. One time, the bank gave us two rolls of silver quarters, that we didn't notice until we opened it up while at front at work. Many customers wanted their change in quarters, instead of dollars and some wanted to buy them off of us.

I've never had my coins looked at, but after reading that article, I just might now, or if anything do some research online.

I remember one time I found an early 1900s penny, and I was excited, but after looking it up, I found out it's not worth much at all.

But my parents have been buying the mint sets every year since before I was born, so should some of those coins become rare for some reason, I've got that covered.

He told Feigenbaum he had bought it strictly as an investment and did not intend to spend it, as there is no longer anything to buy in New York for 10 cents.
Right, you're going to pay $1.9 million for this thing and then turn around and spend it as an ordinary dime.

Drag's Post #64
Well, I went through my change jar today, and I'm glad I did.

-- nickels --
- common
- common, but with a different head
- different head 2, buffalo on back (not an indian nickel though)
- different head 2, beach on back
- different head 2, handshake on back
- different head 2, ship on back
- Canadian (!)

-- dimes --
- only common

-- pennies --
- common
- wheat
- Canadian, from 1935 (!)
- Canadian, from 1946 (has different design) (!!)

-- quarters --
- common, including a bunch of state quarters
- 2 bicentennial quarters (which I gave to my mom)

I'm really curious as to how I got those Canadian coins, especially since I've never been to Canada before, ever.

I occasionally get given Canadian coins in change... which is kind of annoying, since they are worth less than an American equivalent...

True, but then you can usually pawn them off on stores and whatnot.

The oldest coin I have ever found was a Canadian penny from the 1950's (or it might of been a different year but I'm to lazy to get a knife and open the piggy bank that I put it in).
