Besides celebrating Jul's birthday, it's also time to celebrate our nation's independence. What are your guys' plans? Anyone been to any major parties or fireworks displays?

I just got back from Red, White, and Boom, Columbus Ohio's major 4th of July fireworks display. To be honest though, I wasn't that impressed this year. Mainly because they changed where they usually set them off so the place I normally watch it from now makes the whole thing look crappy. I saw more smoke than fireworks. Plus the weather's been dreary all week and I didn't even feel like going out of the house tonight, let alone fighting the major crowd to get back. Next year I'm going to try and get a better spot downtown even if it means I have to walk. Assuming I'm actually motivated next year of course.

Tomorrow We're driving out to Arcanum to visit family, and then seeing their fireworks that night. Even though it's a small town, it's usually pretty good. Of course it's likely to be rainy/stormy/dreary out there too tomorrow so we'll see how it goes.

I enjoy spending my 4th of July blowing things up in The Middle of Nowhere, Idaho.

Unfortunately, the number of places in which I can satisfy my pyromaniacal urges is getting exponentially smaller every year.

I may just have to set fire to my apartment.

It's doing a damn fine job of doing that all by itself.

I don't expect to see much fireworks at all. Mainly it's because the nearest fireworks will be set off far away from where I live, so I can't really see it.

It's not like I expected much either.

Hey, I went to see that as well.

1) Why is Red, White, and Boom on the 3rd instead of the 4th?

2) Was it just me or was it better last year?

3) Where did you watch it from?

1) I have no idea. I always figured it was just so it wouldn't conflict with the other counties small fireworks displays or something. Either that or they don't want to force everyone to pick between their family plans for the 4th and seeing Red, White, and Boom.

2) I agree. From what I could see, I wasn't all that impressed

3) Central Point. Not even my favorite place to watch it from really, but usually it's still a pretty decent view if you don't feel like finding a spot closer downtown. I should of just went on campus like I was thinking about doing. It was supposed to look best this year if you watched it from north of Broad. I think we were catching the whole show from a sideview.

And I've had "God Bless the USA" stuck in my head ever since I got home!

I almost never do anything special. I usually just wind up watching The Twilight Zone all day. In fact, that's what I'm doing right now.
Of course, I have other things I need to do today, but that's how I spend my free time.

Besides, the last time I did any fireworks, my moronic friend managed to burn me with a sparkler.

Rain, rain, and some clouds. Doesn't look like things will go boom here today.

Although I'm not complaining about it.

My area had a little BOOM two nights ago with a lightning/thunder storm...

And then last night idiots were setting off fireworks all night, I mean they are supposed to wait at least a day. Or is their patience that little? They were still going until 8:00 AM.

I probably won't be able to sleep tonight.

We buy the usual $50 pack of fountains at Costco and light 'em off. Though this year... ... ...

Even if they are illegal in VA, I'm going to light off a chain of ~400 firecrackers. >8D

That reminds me, I saw a commecial for fireworks a few days ago, and I saw something hilarious. Caution! Fireworks are for outdoor use only, do not launch inside house.

What's sad is you know someone has done that already or they wouldn't have a warning up!

I don't understand how people could do any of that at all, really.

Maybe people are really stupid or something if they try any of that stuff.

I didn't do much regarding celebrations. I went to the theaters at 11 am to watch Get Smart, and then watched Wall-E right after that. And then I went to work. (I didn't have to go to work today, the office just happened to be close to the movie theater, and I didn't feel like driving through the heavy rain. I drove by two accidents along the way to the office, which made me want to get off the road... Not into an accident, mind you.)

For some reason, I did not watch any fireworks going off. I tried to go to sleep early for once, but was promptly woken up by people firing off fireworks close by what I think must have been a bazooka or something. I thought someone was attacking a car or a house or something with how loud and weird it sounded. Ah well.
