Sadly, that's not possible without ASM hacking it in. Don't count on it.

Yeah whats asm hacking?


Hacking the game's code to change how it works, instead of just editing data. Take a look at all the stuff people have done with SMW for an example of that (custom blocks, enemies, bosses, etc)

Hey, Treeki, would it be possible to add new views to a level by adding a new address string to Block 8?

And y'know the "Moon Physics" you mentioned a few pages back? Can that be added into any level? If so, which block should I go to and which bytes should l edit to add it?

Block 8 can have as many views as you want. Use the info I posted a few pages ago to edit them.
Remember that for a view to work properly, the entrance must contain the view number. (This is easily configurable in the editor; don't forget that numbers are 0-based - so the first view is 0 and so on)

To change the moon physics byte (which ended up just forcing Mini Mario's physics) change the third byte in block 1.


Extract A01_1.bin, change byte at offset 0x72 (114 decimal) to 02 and play 1-1. Mario will move weirdly. (0 = normal, 1 = starts as mini mario, 2 = weird movement, 3 = both, anything above that just repeats) I'm not sure what it's supposed to be, or if it even has a use in the game (other than a glitch) and I was wondering if you might be able to identify it.


Later on I figured out that it had a few other settings, but I don't remember exactly what (I think one of them was the multiplayer style level looping).

Speaking of new levels... I made a thread about a whole hack I'm doing... Yes, I'm going for all 8 Worlds in it. Right now, though, it has all of World 1. There's also a video on it there if you wanna see what it looks like first.

And about the "Moon Physics," Mini Mario does jump in that fashion, but he doesn't run like that. (Just saying)

Oh, and what byte is that exactly? It seems it cycles through Normal, Forced Mini, Moon, Forced Mini Moon, repeat. Do values normally do that cycling?

Finally, is there any known byte that forces a power-up upon entry to level? I mean, besides the Mini Mario one?

Yes. Of that byte, the game only appears to check two bits. The lowest bit is size: 0 for normal, 1 for mini. The next bit is physics: 0 for normal, 1 for "moon".

The sequence 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in binary is:

0000 (Normal)
0001 (Mini)
0010 (Moon)
0011 (Mini moon)
0100 (Normal)
0101 (Mini)

Do you see the pattern of the leftmost two digits? Since the game only checks some of the bits, many values are duplicates of others.

Treeki, About multiplayer i know i can only edit two card, im fine with that. But is it true that only certain sprites and tilesets or tiles? can be used. because in my remake i want to edit the multiplayer



also in my multiplayer edits i want to make race levels to test if two player works with the flag pole or if not i would have to just put all the stars at the end.

I haven't messed with multiplayer editing too much so I'm not sure how it would work. I'm pretty sure that it is more limited than the normal mode though.

I've been working on an attempt to create a hack that allows YI-style level naming like Hiccup asked (where a name would show when you loaded the level) but I've pretty much given up for now due to the confusion of it. I might try again later.
