After ignoring anime for the last few years, I'm currently insanely obsessed. All within the last month or two, I've finished Gurren Lagann, Code Geass (easily one of my favorites), Texhnolyze, Ergo Proxy, Gunbuster, Diebuster, Elfen Lied, Black Lagoon (both seasons), Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic Fumoffu ... feel free to talk about any of these if you want.

Just finished:
Baccano!

Baccano is Italian for noise, but Narita translates it as "stupid commotion." Each of the stories in the series involves several unrelated plots intersecting and crossing each other as events spiral farther and farther out of control. Immortal alchemists, mafia operated speakeasies, and many other elements of pulp fiction mashed together for a world straight out of the movies.

From ANN.

It owns. Great action (pretty brutal and violent at times), downright HILARIOUS comedy at times (one scene had me in tears from laughing), mystery, alchemy, etc. It was very fresh and extremely interesting how it was pulled off in a Pulp Fiction-esque manner, switching between ~20 some main characters and various events stretched out across different years that all came together in the end ... in just 13 episodes!

Let me just post the opening, because it's awesome:

Currently, I have just started up Darker Than Black (wow the production value is insane! Some of the best CG I've ever seen in an anime), Toward The Terra, and some other random stuff. I plan to finish Monster someday in my life and pickup both Death Note and Berserk eventually.

Anyway, I just (finally!) finished Card Captor Sakura (except that second movie). The ending was kinda disappointing really... it's almost scary how much I can relate to that girl.

They finally realize they love eachother and then he has to move away. Story of my life.

If you're looking for suggestions, .hack//anything. Too bad I can't find any goddamn torrents used copies of the first PS2 game. I have all the rest, but it doesn't make sense to play them out of order.

Why do so many animé characters wear collars, anyway?

I have watched to completion a grand total of ONE animé.

Thanks to various things (not enough time, computer hates the encoding, ADD), I haven't finished any others. I'm partway through Higurashi. I've seen most of Haruhi, although now I want to see it in the "right" order because it's too straightforward.

And now thanks to you people, my animé list just gained at least 16 entries.

At this rate, I'll be able to buy every one of them directly from Japan before I'm anywhere near completing them. And DVDs in Japan are expensive.

On the bright side, DVDs are higher quality.

On the topic of actually watching animé, I have one thing to say:
涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱。見て。

Guess what that translates to.

Ha-ru-hi... eh, I don't know Japanese.

Other than the whole Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh!/Digimon/DBZ-style stuff that I grew up watching, the first anime I saw was Evangelion a couple years ago, which was good. In the past few months I've been watching more, such as Claymore, .hack//sign, Rozen Maiden (that was a trip), Death Note, and most recently Higurashi. I've also watched a few Miyazaki films, End of Evangelion (ehh), Rebuild of Evangelion, and an older dub of Akira.

I watched all of Elfen Lied yesterday, but didn't really care for it. Next on the list? Haruhi and Serial Experiments Lain, probably.

I hope that's a joke...since you could've just as easily look at his sig.

And if you're on about Elfen Lied...it really isn't that good. You'd be better off with Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (or ni Kai).

Out of all the anime I've listed above, Elfen Lied is easily my least favorite. I really don't understand the hype behind that one at all, I couldn't bring myself to care for any of the characters besides Nana really. I hated the fact that it felt like a confused plot that was trying to be two anime's in one, some horrible love triangle with some horrible violence on the other side. I didn't mind the blood or gore at all, but with cute loli-esque character designs like the series had, it just felt out of place. On a final note, I had to edit that anime in the list above because I seem to already forget about it.

Anyways, I'm not a huge fan of Lain myself since it's pretty slow, but it's definitely popular. If you like that and enjoy dark/depressing stuff, I'd recommend Texhnolyze, which was made by the same people who did Lain. It offers much more action, maybe violence too, and in the end was a very awesome anime, as tragic as it turns out to be.

As for now, I'm about to finish Terra e... or "Toward The Terra". Let me just simply say, it's one of the most emotional/powerful anime's I've ever seen. They've got some episodes up at youtube if you want to check them out. Episode 1 - Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

Out of the ones you mentioned, Claymore sounds really awesome. I plan on watching that sometime and picking up Death Note again (was keeping up with it when it was new, but kind of forgot about it and just stopped watching. I prefer watching anime in bulk when it's all released I guess).

I agree. Season two (ni Kai) is easily one of the best things I've watched in my life. But season one is the reason it's so amazing.

Agreed. The original broadcast order is definitely best for the first-time viewer.. If you happen to use the DVD order though, beware the first episode.

Episode 1 of .hack//Liminality... wow. The computers actually look like computers! Only the goofy startup animations seemed out of place, the rest was similar or identical to real-world hardware and software. How often do you see that in a movie?

(Although when the guy was logging in through the back door, it was clearly printing a bunch of Japanese text to an ANSI console, so there was a lot of ΡΰΦ¨®¶μμήχ½ and crap spewing out... but then again that's actually rather realistic too. )

Haruhi's computer scenes (At least, in the OS) are pretty much just exactly Windows XP..
