i go in and out of phases, but i listen a lot to japanese [environmental, ambient and healing] music. lately though i've been listening to SungKyung, a Korean indie artist who used to have a project called Lovewave. she released a new album last year and i've been playing it a lot. it's kicked off a return to Korean indie, which i guess happens every spring for me for some reason when the sun starts hitting my apartment at a certain angle

3. what are some things you have to do every day as part of your routine?

Pretty much constantly. My taste is wide and it depends on my mood and the activity I'm doing while listening, but the most recent album I listened to front-to-back was The Book of Traps and Lessons by Kae Tempest. It borders on spoken-word/poetry, but it's incredible. One of those albums that has left a lasting mark on me.

3. what are some things you have to do every day as part of your routine?
My daily routines are pretty structured, but to keep it brief: my morning coffee and time to browse the web in the morning is important to me to start my day right. I also try to squeeze in 10 minutes of meditation daily, but it sadly tends to be the first thing I cut if I'm particularly busy in day.

i have some pretty firm routines: wake up around sunrise, a light yoghurt and oats breakfast, cold showers in the evening, meditating, going to bed early when i can. lately i spend at least an hour a day looking through content on the Internet in Serbian, Croatian or Bosnian as a way to maintain my grasp on the language(s), watching videos or reading articles out loud

4. Do you have a best friend? What is it that drew you two together?
there are a number of people in my life that i consider close, but i'll talk about this one friend i have that i've known for i think seven years now. we met at a thrift store and it turned out we were neighbours. the second time i ran into her, i introduced myself. then we just went to thrift stores constantly together all over the Puget Sound region. i think the fact that we both appreciated old electronics and visiting thrift stores was what drew us together. even though i've moved away, we still keep in touch and even met up over the summer when i was back in the states to do some thrifting

5. if you could instantly become proficient in any one musical instrument, which one would you learn? and why?

My favorite colors tend to be warm colors, but I've always had a soft spot for teal.

2. Do you regularly listen to music? If you do, what's the song or band you've been listening to most recently?
My musical tastes tend to vary wildly, and I find myself going back and forth between very different artists and styles. For example, I've mainly been listening to ambient music, like Woob, and Tupac's earlier albums lately.

3. what are some things you have to do every day as part of your routine?
I'm not as good at keeping up routines as I'd like to be, but I do try to spend at least half an hour a day by myself on quiet, personal reflection. I suppose it's like meditation, but I'm not sure if the term really fits.

4. Do you have a best friend? What is it that drew you two together?
I do. We met online in this community, before it was called Jul, about 16 years ago. We had some similar interests, but I think our similar personalities and creative ambitions are what really brought us together. Even though we're engaged now, I still consider her to be my best friend.

5. if you could instantly become proficient in any one musical instrument, which one would you learn? and why?
I adore the piano, and I spent some time learning it as a child, but I never progressed very far and regret not keeping it up

i already play piano, but becoming a virtuoso would be nice. but if i could become a virtuoso instantly for any instrument i'd probably pick theremin

1. yellow. it's at its most effective when used as a cold color in the right palette, to convey particular texture and feeling of something delicately cool. perhaps it's best thought as "gold" or "bronze" or other metallic colors

2. i need to constantly, but i tend to switch a lot and do not generally follow one artist or style and instNah i've been listening to Kirby soundtracks all the time now

5. any keyboard instrument, like piano or celesta or uh, keyboard. i lack the multitasking coordination to play and learn from simple usage, and i'd love to just be able to play music and compose and such

6. i love animals and find myself liking more specific things for many reasons of their own so there's no such thing as a favorite, but i really like the acraga coa moth, it looks and acts really curious, and moths in general are cute

7. japan, perhaps. early on i was exposed and interested in many different cultural facets of it, historical and literary, in addition to the relation to my interests at the time, as well as other interesting parts of it that i was for the longest time drawn to it in general. i feel i've moved on since, but it does have left a significant cultural influence in my life, that i would like to visit for sometime

It also happens to be my favorite color in general: turquoise. I suppose slightly more on the blue side.

I listen to it regularly enough that I have my 120GB iPod blazing in my pocket right now -- though I'm actually listening to Dave Gorman's Too Much Information. I've been on the road tons this decade, so I listen to music almost constantly while watching the states go by. I've been listening to tons of Lucifer Corpus, Holy Diver, and stuff like that.

3. what are some things you have to do every day as part of your routine?
Check my various forums, recently trying to download Linux has been part of my routine because it keeps sputtering out at the last few minutes, realizing it's 2:03 in the morning and I've stayed up too long again.

4. Do you have a best friend? What is it that drew you two together?
Yeah. I've known them for almost five years now! I don't actually remember, to be honest, my whole teenage years were a blur. We were in a discord server for a YouTuber we both still like together, and that's about all I can really remember. I don't remember why they and I clicked so much, besides just being less politically vocal than the others.

5. if you could instantly become proficient in any one musical instrument, which one would you learn? and why?
Bass, for sure. The bass is probably my favorite instrument, though I suppose the drums are also useful.

6. What's your favorite animal?
I like lots of them, but if I can pick an extinct one, I really like velociraptors. Realistic, turkey-sized ones with feathers, not the Crichton ones.

7. where's a place you've always wanted to visit?
I've wanted to visit a few places. Darlington and Doncaster are I guess the earliest I'd still like to see. Honestly, most of the places I want to go are fictional. Swapstone Hollow, Pokémon Square, Zebes...

8. what is something you don't like of something you like?
There are plenty of nitpicks I have with the stuff I like. Super Mario 64 is buggy in ways that aren't fun, Dinosaur Planet is less finished than it could have been if an earlier build leaked, the 64DD was basically murdered by Nintendo, my PowerBook G4 only goes up to 2GB RAM and never got Snow Leopard, on top of making it harder to boot from USB (having to go into OpenFirmware rather than just hitting the option key on startup). My iPod is literally the hardest one to open. My Technics SL-6 is high tech, but doesn't include a built-in preamp. Guitars and basses have roundwound strings, which makes it impossible for me to play -- flatwounds make it possible to so much as practice. Technology is great, but it also has way too much potential to spy, and tons of "libre" hardware (like SiFive and Purism's whole deal) is just freewashed.

Edit: damn, I didn't. For the person after, just count this one as a .5 I guess, what's the first thing that comes to mind when people tell you to say the first thing to come to mind?

1. to run off my previous answer, magenta also works extremely well as a cool color. especially in a turquoise-magenta palette creates a very strong effect.

2. i feel i need to listen to music constantly. i really enjoy listening to the things my girlfriend shows me, and it's a way to stay close. i pointed it out in another thread, but i've been listening to tramell starks a lot.

3. i need a strong breakfast to be able to function at all, which i'll then have watching some playthroughs or streams, or other light watches. i kinda have been watching raocow during breakfast every single day for like a decade?? but i stopped somewhat recently

4. see above but like, past my first post

5. my voice. it's pretty rough and i find myself that i'd like to sing but unable to. and just being able to have control over what my voice sounds like would be incredibly helpful outside of that, too.

6. anomalocaris. it looks just kind of adorable and it's an interesting creature of a very different ecosystem. it's a friend.

7. i'd like to see through various sites in mesoamerica, visiting the place. the culture also always fascinated me, and likewise i had several ties with it

8. there's not enough girl player characters in this one old jank video game

9. what would you add to a piece of media that you feel it could've explored, but didn't?
