There's no need to reiterate the news, but it's difficult to shake off the feeling that this impacts my security and ultimately us all.

Today just so happens to be independence day here in Estonia, and people here are quite spooked. Estonia is even to trigger consultations about security under NATO's Article 4.

A friend in Russia said she cried the whole morning, that she's afraid for her friends in Ukraine she's lost contact with. As far as I can tell, this move seems to be unpopular even inside Russia; nobody wanted this war. But now here we are.

I wish everybody directly affected by the war strength and wellbeing.

Dark times. The videos coming out of Ukraine right now are heartbreaking.

I'm really glad to see Ukraine really holding up their own, and I feel bad for the poor bastards that got drafted and sent to fight in, basically, Winter War II, and for Russia as a whole who is going to suffer through some pretty rough times economically if 107% continues barreling forward with his empire-building. Russians are pretty resoundingly against this war, let's hope this isn't the pretext he uses to just completely abandon the vague semblance of democracy they have.
Thankfully, he seems kinda scared right now. Hoping those talks along the Pripyat aren't a trap...

It's amazing to me that Putin's government is continuing to push forward with the false pretext they created (freeing the area from Nazi bullies), even though nobody else in the world believes it, not even Russia's own citizens. And instead of backing off, Putin is doubling down and suggesting that nuclear options are on the table.

Surely, Putin would have expected resistance, right? Does he really think conquering one former-Soviet neighbor is worth cutting ties with the entire western world? What is his end goal? Did he miscalculate and is now stuck in a poor plan so as to not show weakness to his people? Or is burning bridges exactly his plan? Is he that confident in Russia's power to stand on its own?

No matter what happens, it's not going to turn out well.

It's possible. I heard (link to 68k.news) that energy might play a part in it. I've also heard that the sanctions are part of Putin's plans for autarky, though now I'm hearing that Russia isn't happy about the sanctions? I'm not entirely sure. Presumably because of the effects on the rouble it's had.

But yeah, no way this turns out well even in the scenario we don't wake up to high noon at 9PM.
