I've seen this kind of thing happen before, though. I saw it happen when I was on the subreddit "The_Donald".

When I started posting there, I was a Trump supporter. I was a Trump supporter because I thought he was going to be the best president ever. I thought he was going to "drain the swamp." I thought he was going to bring jobs back. I thought he would take care of the veterans.

I was very optimistic about the future of America.

I thought that some of the comments were over the top, but I was willing to have a conversation with those people. I was willing to listen to their concerns, and I was willing to try to find a compromise.

But, then the Reddit admins banned /r/Pizzagate. Pizzagate is a place where people were trying to do some digging into who was behind the release of the Podesta emails.

The admins didn't like that, so they banned it.

And then I saw that people who were talking about Pizzagate were being banned.

And then I saw that people were being banned for talking about the banning of people who were talking about Pizzagate.

And that's when I realized that the people who were trying to ban Pizzagate were the same people who were doing the same thing on Twitter. They weren't banning Pizzagate because they didn't agree with it. They were banning it because they didn't want the questions asked. They were banning it to protect their own interests.

I said, "this is a cult."

And they said, "you're being childish."

And I said, "no, you're being childish."

And they said, "you're the one being childish."

And I said, "no, you're the one

"It's about what he's donating to" you might say. But that missed the point of the question. The answer hurt me, because that question was not just directed at the Scott Cawthon situation, it was largely a referendum for the discussion. It was a very Twitter-esque answer, which is shocking considering just how much this place seems to hate Twitter explicitly for those kinds of poor quality answers, yet accepts something that is just as bad if not effectively worse in Mastodon. Yet, the answer still stands. One's personal choices in one specific area, no matter the scale of their involvement, or personal responsibility, means that they must be compromised regardless of any evidence of character, context, or circumstance. No matter what.

There is one moment that I can think of in history that followed that answer to a scary degree. It was a choice made by a certain fascist leader known as Adolf Hitler, and it involved the imprisonment and execution of many Jewish people. What was the reason for it? They were compromised, and there was nothing else to be said. Anybody who sympathized with the Jews was just as guilty.

There's a number of counters that you, reader, can probably think of as to "BTFO" of my point. I don't expect anybody who reads this to do anything but defend their position, nor do I even expect that this post this will even last very long before it is deleted in some form. I only want to say that the answer to that question was still "yes", despite every bit of nuance I introduced into the discussion, every question I asked of others' perceptions of it as well.

Me being kicked from it confirmed that as far as this community is concerned, it is okay to think that the answer to my question is and always will be "yes". It will be "yes" so long as it is considered okay to abuse others on that logic alone.


I'm going to be honest, at this point I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to be responding to. I'll address the parts that I think I can understand though.

Firstly, I find it incredibly hard to believe that you're upset that your question was answered "yes". Did you enter the Discord server, ask your question, and then leave without hearing the answer? That's really hard to believe considering that the answer was given immediately following your question, and you were replying to the answer, asking for clarification. If that's not the case, then I must ask, how did you become upset? If you made the question but didn't want to know the answer, then why did you ask?

Secondly, I don't really understand why you're upset that someone said that one minor personal choice determines the whole of a person's character. If that's not what you wanted to hear, then why did you ask?

Thirdly, I don't understand your criticism of Twitter. Twitter is a social network designed to allow people to post their thoughts quickly so that they can communicate with others. It is not a place for in depth discussion. If you want a place for in depth discussion then there are plenty of places on the web for you to do that (e.g. reddit, forums, etc.). If you want a place for short, quick updates, then there are plenty of places on the web for you to do that (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, etc.). The problem is that you want to have your cake and eat it too. You want a place where you can post in-depth discussions, but you also want a place where you can post quick updates. That is not something that Twitter was designed for.

Fourthly, even assuming that your criticism is directed at Mastodon, I still don't understand how it's Twitter-esque. Mastodon was designed to be a place where people can say what they want as long as it follows the code of conduct. If someone says that they support the LGBTQ+ movement and therefore must also be in support of paedophilia, then they are violating the code of conduct. When people violate the code of conduct and refuse to stop, then they are banned. Your characterisation of this policy as "Twitter-esque" is clearly inaccurate.

Lastly, you seem to be angry that you were kicked from the server. I'm not sure why you're angry. If you want to have a discussion and you're being disruptive, then you will be kicked from the server. I'm not sure how that's hard to understand.
