| I found this: http://www.symbos.de/ It runs on a z80, so that's pretty good. It has IRC and WGet if you can get networking going on your machine, which requires some sort of addon board probably more powerful than the z80 itself, but I love the website/UI design of this. And it's multitasking on a friggin z80... and it made me wonder, what kind of hardware could you feasibly get web browsing on while keeping the costs and complexity as low as possible? |

Raspberry Pis may be pretty cheap, but you need to add the cost of a monitor.
I guess it's a matter of expectations. Most people already have a TV, and a keyboard and mouse can be had for ~$10.
If you don't have a TV, probably your best bet is an old hand me down smartphone. Which is probably why people in most emerging nations use smart phones as their only computer. Used laptops are probably cheaper if you're in the right area (North America/Western Europe) but anywhere else, they're more rare.
I don't think it has internet capability, but talking about OSes on z80s got me thinking about CollapseOS, which is kind of an interesting topic in its own right.
