BRINK by splash damage games took my enthusiasm for games and snapped it in half.
One of the worst games I've ever played.
It's a small release, multiplayer only with really unfun levels (in terms of layout). It just didn't work out.
Anyway I preordered it and regret it every since.

Other than that I've never been as disappointed in a game, even if it was bad.

Mario Party 5. I still had a fun time playing it but, I was expecting an upward trend after each Mario Party (3 is my favorite), and 4 was kinda like, better in some aspects and worse in others, but I still liked it and found it fun. But 5 just felt bland. I think the artstyle kinda hurt the game in that aspect. I don't find it to be as memorable as any the earlier ones.

Zero Time Dilemma...honestly I wouldn't be as mad with the game if it wasn't for the True/Final Ending. Like, it is a bit clumsy and kinda BS at times but I was willing to forgive all that due to the rushed development (considering the game was unlikely to even be made). But man, that ending does legitimately ruin VLR. (edit: actually I'm now remembering there's a lot more plot points outside of the ending that are still pretty bad)

Oh man, on that note, Mario Party 8. While the series had been on a downward trend since 5, each game was still at least a bit fun, and had new and interesting mechanics. 8 certainly had new mechanics, but it was just awful. Every minigame (at least, the ones I played) consisted entirely of pointing the wii remote at the tv and rotating it left or right. This was before Wii Motion Plus, too, so the tracking wasn't even that good. I think that was also the one that introduced the car, and got rid of using items? God what an awful, awful game.

That was Mario Party 9, which is uh.

If you have complaints about 8 then 9 is...oh boy.

I wondered if that was the case. Couldn't quite remember which was which. But they were both terrible.

Hiveswap: Act 1. Enough said.

(Also, I'm not sure if this counts, but Frog Hotel stinks too since I donated to that Kickstarter years ago and there has been zero sign of a developer update nor release date since then.)

After skimming through this thread off the top of my head...
Breath of Fire 4. Just such a letdown compared to 3. Just so drab, in multiple respects. Lacked the same charm.
Also I would second Mario Party 9, which was a but as deep as a puddle. Felt really dumbed/watered down.

My biggest disappointment in gaming was when Nintendo released the 64DD mail-order only until 2000.

Okay, but for real, in terms of the most disappointed I've been with a game was probably some flash game, or similar freeware. There probably should be two categories of disappointing, disappointing in a good way (when there's a game that's great except for there just not being enough of it to be satisfying, for example) and disappointing in a bad way (this one's obvious).

Disappointing in a bad way would probably be Half-Life 2 for me. It's not itself a bad game, not at all, but it just doesn't really follow up from the original game. Too different to be a good sequel. Besides that, Super Mario Land has horrible controls making it a pain to play (on both original hardware and emulation, it sometimes fails to register button presses), and any Animal Crossing after AC e+ just doesn't have the same vibe for me, but New Leaf on especially disappoint me because now I'm above the citizens of the town rather than being one of them, leaving me completely devoid of the same feeling of Population: Growing! or e+ where it feels like living in a cozy little village and getting to know a living, breathing town that's existed long before you moved in, just being a part in a larger, already oiled machine. Smash kinda has the same problem for me; 64 has a feeling to it that all the later games lack, they feel too sterile and official while 64 gives me the feeling I'm in an underground ring in an alley and I could be stabbed at any time.

Disappointing in a good way would probably be Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. It's still my favorite game in the series by a long mile, but if you do just the story rather than grind (which the plot encourages you to do because the quests where you're able to take a break to do side missions are if I remember right all motivated by immediate obvious danger to a character), you can beat it in probably five hours. I just wish there were a few more missions, I wish that
, and I wish there were a few more mechanics. But I think the plot and world are great, better than Explorers. And this is just me, but in the same franchise, I'm stuck on the Gold 97 hack and can't progress, so it's done for me, but I really enjoyed it while it lasted. The Life's End mod for Half-Life was amazing and the fact that it extended the gameplay that much while (AFAIK) not touching the game code at all is impressive, but I feel it could have had a couple more maps. It doesn't overstay its welcome at all.
