What is the worst video game that you have ever played?

I'm gonna go with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the NES. If you want a game that is just misery in video game form, this game fits the bill to a tee.

I wanna say Bart Simpson's Escape From Camp Deadly. Mainly because it was entirely too difficult. You have two hit points, with no way I could find to restore them, and after death, you respawn with one. Come on. Also, it's just not a very good game.

one time, i legitimately went through and played every single individual game that made up action 52. i already knew it was infamously bad, but i still played it. it was honest-to-god one of the most miserable experiences of my life caused by a piece of media

besides games that are already infamously bad (or were at the time, anyway), Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. it was my first spyro game, and hooboy was it a disappointment. there's only like 3 levels and they all suck and the whole game feels unfinished

finally, there's this fangame engine called Zelda Classic, and someone named a game for it called Ballad of a Bloodline. i -- and this is not a hyperbolic joke, this really happened -- legitimately got so depressed after playing through most of it that i had serious insomnia and couldn't sleep until i ended up deleting my entire Zelda Classic folder. i think that's the most horrible i've ever felt after playing a video game whatsoever. that thing has fucking cursed energy. it's almost fascinatingly powerful because of it, but it is horrible to play

i've probably played some horrible gba licensed games but i can't exactly remember what they were, so i'm gonna go with energy for the pc engine, which seems to have been programmed by people who just learned what a video game was the day before

god, this is true. then again, my tastes skew more toward the more simplistic stuff released prior to 2.5's release (or hell, even 2.10 really), so perhaps I'm not the best person to ask myself

I have played lots of bad games over the years, it's hard to say what the worst one is.... because the really bad ones are not really memorable? It's just the sort to play for like, 5-10mins and be like "yep, this is shit", and then never touch again.

As for as bad game that I do remember that I wish was better.... Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled, for the nintendo DS. A jrpg that *really* wants to be Chrono Trigger without understanding anything of what made that good. It starts off being super edgy and then follows that up with having some [anime wackiness] a bit in that just makes me cringe in the other direction. I admittedly didn't get very far into it, but what I played of it was both mechanically bad and the story made me cringe at every turn, two hours or so (I think?) into the game I just gave the hell up on it.

Edit: oh and it has random encounters and a stupid high encounter rate, because of course.

Aha, if we're going by games that were bad but still memorable, I've got one.

Quest 64. (Also known as Holy Magic Century or Eltale Monsters depending on where in the world you are.)

Now, for those of you who have played it before, you might be wondering what's so bad about it. Maybe you already know where this is going.

Quest 64 is a fairly simple JRPG in which you play as Brian, the mage apprentice who must use his various magics to defeat monsters as he travels the lands. Unlike many other JRPGs, where defeating enemies grants you experience you need to become stronger, in Quest 64, you gain experience by doing things. Cast fire magic, for example, and you gain experience in fire magic. Do that often enough and your fire magic gets stronger. Get hit often enough and your defense levels up, and so on.

The battle system takes full advantage of the 3D nature of the Nintendo 64 by giving both you (Brian) and your enemies the ability to move around on the battlefield, with nothing like a grid to limit you to a particular position. Of course, you can only move on your turn, and there's a limit to how far you can go, but it can be used strategically. For example, you might move between two enemies to cast magic that will hit them both, or move away from an enemy so it can't reach you on its turn.

Now.

Brian, being a mage, has a staff. This staff is used to cast magic. But you can also hit enemies with the staff. Naturally, I spent every battle bludgeoning monsters to death.

All my experience went towards leveling up that staff, and I was wiped out by the first airborne monster.

I had to start over to level up properly. That wasn't fun.

Ah, a friend of mine had Quest 64. I remember playing it a few times and thinking it was just a weird, mediocre RPG, but he would rage about it constantly. I always wondered why he kept playing it. There has to be something about that game that keeps pulling people in, but I never saw it.

I can't really think of any game that was just completely dreadful. I'm sure I've played my fair of rotters, but nothing really stands out. The closest I can think of is Lunar Dragon Song. As the name implies, it was an early DS game, completely with unnecessary use of the touch screen. It wasn't really bad though, it was just kind of boring.

I don't know if its objectively bad but I have spent more hours into Paperboy 64 than I'd like to remember

Goofy's Hysterical History Tour was another one. I legit did like this game, I just thought that it was difficult. But playing it again made me realize, no it's not just difficult, it controls horribly

there were some PC games too I shouldn't even have bothered to play but I did anyway like Ice Cream Tycoon and Mahjong Towers Eternity (I forget if this one was bad or if it was just generic, it's been a while)
