I don't necessarily agree with your suggested name, but that's another matter entirely. ____________________ [WIP layout as it's being made! 'w' ] |

I disagree with this; just because the word can be used in an ableist manner does not mean every use of the word automatically constitutes ableism. There was a Twitter thread that summed up my thoughts on the matter pretty well, but since it was on Twitter it's probably lost under a mountain of other nonsense at this point.
I agree with this, which is why I went ahead and did it. ____________________ |

That's an incredibly short-sighted assumption of how people's minds work.

| around 1:10 "no mentally stupid ppl", combined with the stuff about calling things "crazy" and "mad". also honestly only crazy ppl (like myself) are allowed to do that. it's called a (reclaimed) slur for a reason. |

Originally posted by Kaito SinclaireWhile this is true in theory, in practice I feel only people whom it's applicable to should be the ones (as a group, not individuals) to get to decide that if something is not bad? Originally posted by SukasaIt's not meant to be offensive in context, I think everyone can see that, or should see that. The point is that it can be a problem despite that. If a word that is used to describe a subset of people (which crazy absolutely has been historically and still is today) then describing something else using the same word by necessity equates the two. For example of something that has more commonly happened (and still sadly happen) would be: People using Gay as a slang to refer to things they don't like. That's not a very charitable comparison to what's going on here, but even if you equate a phrase like that to something that you personally consider is good rather than bad, that is still muddening the word and using it for things it shouldn't (And arguably in the case of crazy, shouldn't be used to describe anything or anyone at all). Like, yes, in today's world it's normal to describe something that is a bit off and or awkward as crazy. If that was just all the word was then there wouldn't be a problem here. But that normal use still builds on top of the original use: Which is to describe a person with a mental condition or someone suffering from insanity. The more common uses today still builds off of that; "this thing is weird" in the same way that "someone who suffers from insanity is weird" is the context in which this use is built. I feel that to argue that it's not ableism is to disregard entirely how we got here in the first place. Like, to stress my stance again: I don't think the name of the forum is a huge problem, and I don't think it's something that necessarily have to change. But I absolutely do think it's a light form of ableism. I'm struggling a bit here to properly articulate things, but hopefully this post provides a bit more clarity than my earlier one? ____________________ [WIP layout as it's being made! 'w' ] |

| I don't feel safe or welcome here anymore. I haven't since y'all started to say things like "[autistic ppl, ppl with down's, etc] shouldn't be allowed to be politicians", tbh. renaming a forum takes a lot less effort and has a much less significant effect than removing established, ableist community members, but you won't even do that. *sigh* |

Originally posted by SoniEx2That sucks, but I also feel like you've not even really engaged much in the community at all to begin with. Originally posted by SoniEx2Literally no one is doing this, and I have not seen anyone do that. (And if I had I'd argue for them getting banned ASAP). You're making some pretty bold ass claims here with no proof what-so-ever. If you're just gonna shit talk the userbase with really harsh claims like that without providing any proof then I'm really not gonna shed a tear if you see yourself out. ____________________ [WIP layout as it's being made! | It's kind of funny seeing a it implied that a forum dedicated to romhacking and videogame ephemera are run and populated by neurotypicals. Haha. |

fwiw i don't agree that being neuroatypical with multiple mental disorders makes someone's opinion more valid than someone else's if they say they're not bothered by craziness domain
but at the same time, crazy as a word has a pretty well-established second meaning akin to "wild" or "far out of the ordinary". it's being used in that sense here, nobody's ever implied that the posters in craziness domain are mentally ill, and i've literally never seen anyone take it to mean anything else. as someone who's advocated for people to stay away from ableist language/thinking here before -- i've literally gotten into arguments on this forum with people who have called mass shooters "nuts" -- i feel like there's better battles to pick here Originally posted by SoniEx2you aren't the sole representative of everyone who struggles with mental illness. i struggle with mental illness, and i do not agree with your line of thinking, and the implication that i do or that there is an agreed upon rule on who is allowed to use the word crazy divorced from any context is more offensive to me than the name of any forum on here ____________________ |
