Not going to lie, but I highkey miss how much Nintendo made their commercials stand out, for better or for worse in terms of the game's sales success. I can only remember a handful of commercials for other systems, like the creepy PS3 baby, and I vaguely remember seeing the infamous Jaguar commercial when I was 3 or 4, also Crash Bandicoot ads in general. Meanwhile, when I think of Nintendo's ads over the years, I remember the Gameboy Color lips, the Animal Crossing ads, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, Smash 64, Pokemon Red/Blue/Crystal, the Mario Party ad where Mario straight-up gets arrested... it's endless. I simply love the experimental style it took in those days. It's as though Nintendo of America wanted to make commercials to remember, even if it was some of the most fucked up commercials out there. Some of them really haven't aged well, now that I've since decided to take a good look at the N64 era in particular. Others are still amazing, like the commercials for Battletanx.

So... what's your take?

In general commercials have become boring and unattractive, using the same generic voices and speech... no surprise to see this change in Nintendo especially as the general public views them as the "kiddy" company...

I rarely see any commercials nowadays, but I remember the original commercials being pretty ridiculous. One that always stands out to me is the image of a Yoshi throwing an egg and crushing a woman's car.

Though, I do recall the Smash 4 commercials having a similar feel to them. Certainly not as ridiculous as, say, Super Smash Bros. 64's commercial, but it's more silly than what we got for Super Mario Maker.


Also... does this count? I still have the VHS somewhere.
