Perhaps make it a "Serious Discussion" forum instead of just for world news? That way people can discuss their personal issues there too and get support. I mean we have Innocent a Town but... that's more a mish mash of shitpost/serious post.

Making it login only would be cool too if this is done

yeah, we used to have the officer's club forum
eventually as activity slowed down on the boards,
it fell out of regular use, and ended up being hidden

...tbh, not that the news forum sees that much use anymore anyway
everyone's already hyper-inundated with news through social media and shit

The serious forum™ got closed because it opened people to abuse from the internet at large. I have thought about reopening it in some way, but I'm not sure exactly how I want to do that.

I would propose making it login only or request only, though the latter would need somewhat more work on the code. Kak already knows how to do the "login only" forum thing (like what AB2.5 has), since it's in his fork of Jul.

At least you want to do it Xk. That's something I appreciate (it would be nice for Julers to be able to vent personal issues or get help, the News forum to me honestly feels just like a subset of what could be something more broad - the serious forum)

anyone not vouched with less than 10 posts can't see it
anyone not vouched with over 10 posts can see it, but not the identity of anyone there past like...pronouns maybe (and possibly not threads they haven't made)

i think the anonymizing system might be a good idea in general tbh since there's obviously going to be a huge "mods and admins can obviously see you, duh" so harassment wont happen???

What I was going to say is that I approve of the idea of having a few forums only visible to logged-in users, with maybe a few precautions such as minimum of 10 posts + 1 month of time here (could be changed), or maybe just visible as long as you have an account (but that could open it to abuse potentially). I know it might be a bit difficult to update the code for it but I still think it's a good idea worth implementing.

It's difficult simply because there's no real differentiation between "user who is logged in" and "user who is not logged in" for forum access.
