It's not quite what the OP was looking for in a sense, since it's mainly focused around online matchmade play, but the lichess app for Android is well-made. Good simple aesthetic with light customizability, analysis board and such… and there is local play versus the computer or versus a physically proximate opponent if you want it.
Recently came back to Spirit HD while waiting for a medical appointment. TRON-future laser-lines aesthetic, arcade action play swooping around to connect the trail of your ghost-ship avatar into vortexes to make the wandering deadly perplexing 3D attacks geometric shapes of ambiguous doom fall into them. The bonus levels break up the flow well, too. There's an alternative “Pulse” mode, where rather than connecting your trail, you touch little vortex seed things when they're at a suitable point of their intensity cycle, and rather than going through a series of discrete levels, you accumulate multiplier by collecting motes from enemies and the enemies gradually spawn more frequently and move faster.
