still playing through this surprisingly extensive library of games. it's so fascinating what people can do with 2-bit color. what are some of your favorite games for the Game Boy? advance games don't count, and neither do color unless they're backwards compatible w/ the original.

i think Pokémon Gold, which looks absolutely amazing in the original btw and probably better than it does in color, would be on my list, along with Final Fantasy Legends II and Super Mario Land 2. and of course, i can't forget Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

what are some of your favs?

I'm going to give a shout out to Kid Icarus: Of Myths And Monsters; I'd argue it actually surpassed the NES game, both graphically and gameplay-wise.

Super Mario Land, Tetris and Link's Awakening are my favourites. Never really had much of an extensive GB library, so those were what I played the most. Oh, and I can't forget Pokemon Yellow!

Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge is great. I also recommend the Mario Land/Wario Land series (though I have a soft spot for Wario Land 3 which is GBC exclusive).

They were already mentioned, but Super Mario Land 2 and Link's Awakening are a couple of my all-time favorites, and you can't go wrong with Pokémon. Wario Land II is also very good and backwards compatible; I highly recommend it.

Kirby's Dream Land 2 is really nice, but I was never able to finish it, unfortunately. Donkey Kong ('94) also holds up pretty well.

Trip World is very short and kind of difficult toward the end, but it's one of the most adorable games I've ever played. It's certainly not the best, but I have a soft spot for it.

I think I've mentioned a certain series enough times over the course of my stay here.

Other than that, Super Mario Land 2 and Duck Tales 2 are also good favourites of mine, though the latter is kind of a short game.

Wario Land 2, Link's Awakening and Kirby's Dream Land 2 are probably my favourite.

But GB Tetris is a fond one, still. As is Kirby's Star Stacker - one of those countless Kirby spinoff games but I really quite liked it.

Most of my favorites have already been named, like Link's Awakening, Pokemon Gold and Silver, Super Mario Land 2, etc., but here's a few more.

I like Tetris DX a lot, much more than the original, especially from a gameplay perspective - it's not as iconic, I guess, but it's more polished and just plays better in my opinion. Pokemon Puzzle Challenge and the Trading Card Game are also really nice, with the former (so far) being my go-to incarnation of the Panel de Pon concept, too... although the main game is GBC-only. Mole Mania is pretty good as well, but I haven't played it very much, so it's not quite in the realm of favorites yet.

Donkey Kong Land 2 probably qualifies as an inherently inferior game to Donkey Kong Country 2, but I personally tend to like it a lot more, at least partially because that was the one I grew up playing.

Yeah, another one of the "all my favorites got mentioned already" people, but Wario Land 3 is also good (though nobody seems to like it over the former two; I think it's better than WL1 at least) ...

In retrospect, as much as I enjoy the Game Boy as a console, there aren't all that many games I really like on it.

I might try out some of the recommendations in this thread, though. I've been interested in the Final Fantasy Legend games, but I've never actually played them myself.

I'm super happy to see Wario Land 2 get some love here

As much of a botched port as it is in some places, Universal Soldier is still a pretty decent game, even if a lot of the Turrican II stuff got messed up. (On that note, Turrican is pretty good too)

Most of my other ones have already been mentioned. Tetris DX, Belmont's Revenge, Link's Awakening, Super Mario Land 1/2...

Aside from those, it's tough. I started off with the GBC, so a lot of the games I remember tended to go GBC-exclusive after a while.

Tobu Tobu Girl!! it's very cute and fun

Also all the Kirby games, Link's Awakening, and Trip World
and Metroid 2

less favourite but still very good are also Megaman IV and V

and probably a lot of games, i used to play a lot gameboy games, but somehow my memory of them blurs them all that none stand out
maybe it's more that it's full of not so much "favourite" as a lot of "nice little game i like"

also the unused panel de pon minigame in pokemon puzzle challenge

I never played many Game Boy games, but of the few I have played, Donkey Kong was quite a fun game. I remember that I didn't play through all of it, but exactly where I stopped will be a mistery because I don't have the save file for it anymore.

I still remember how the intro noise was loud enough that my mom thought there was an UFO nearby or something. I was like "Why would you think there's an UFO nearby?".

I refuse to honor this segregation of color games and black/white games. They are all Game Boy games.

I'm another in the "all my favorites have been mentioned already" group. To contribute to this, though, I recall having fun with Pocket Bomberman (not the color version), which is like Bomberman as a 2D platformer. I don't think I got very far in it, though.

I strongly recommend Mega Man V if you haven't played it yet. While it's mostly the same, having eight new bosses and a new starting weapon besides the Mega Buster is quite a nice change.

Then there's the OST which is also very impressive for a Game Boy game. I'd give it a listen to if you have some free time.

All the Mega Man games except II are worth playing if you like the NES games, although most are rehashes of NES stages and bosses.
