Lunaria nailed it. the unpopular opinion, even outside of this forum, would be to say you like Windows 10. i’m not sure where you’re finding that the prevalent opinion is liking Windows 10, 2Tie. hence my post (which was sarcastic btw and was meant to point out that everyone was derailing this thread by complaining about Windows 10, which everyone already does, thus making it not an unpopular opinion).

btw, you know what’s the best of the ’90s OSes? Windows ME. discuss. 😈

The popular opinion on most of the internet, in my experience, has been that W10 is good, is the future, and anyone that doesn't like it just hates change. While there are lots of complaints about it, most people (again, in my experience) think that, overall, it's a good upgrade. You'd generally get downvotes on most popular subreddits for saying W7 > W10, for instance. It definitely isn't as thoroughly loved as W7 was over Vista though, that's for sure.

Anyway, unpopular opinions: flat design sucks, low-contrast design sucks, tablet-level whitespace sucks
I imagine most of this forum will at least partly agree with those, but given their prevalence, it's obviously a minority opinion. Modern "minimalist" design, as far as I'm concerned, are a blight on usability, in return for aesthetics. It's a case of form over function, and I find it, frankly, disgusting.

This.

Although internet access on the go is convenient for example when you're trying to get to a place in an unfamiliar environment.

That's about it. A phone that does calls, texts and internet access via a decent browser is good for me.

Pretty much what my phone is, though, minus some games and specific apps. Nothing related to social networks.

You know you don't have to install any of the bullshit that spams you with notifications and crap, right?

I'm torn on smartphones. I miss the days of my Nokia 3330, where the battery lasted for a fortnight, and I didn't have to worry about having a large plate of glass in my pocket ready to smash at a moment's notice. However, having constant access to a map, translator, wikipedia, etc., is a massive benefit, and I don't have to carry around a separate music player, since smartphones come with just as much storage space. Having "location services", bluetooth, and NFC disabled means the battery lasts several days on standby (currently at 73% after 2 days), and not installing a bunch of social media apps or games means I get pretty much no notifications except texts and emails, all of which I want, and could disable if I didn't.

My Nokia 3330 fell out of a first story window, went through the wash twice, and fell out of my pocket and got stepped/jumped on countless times. Eventually it stopped charging the battery, but because the battery lasted so long, I could just charge it in my sister's old one and swap them out every 2 weeks. They were so convenient, and you could pretty much just forget they existed until you needed them, but I'm constantly worried my smartphone is going to fall out of my pocket and break the screen (my old HTC was dropped countless times too, and only recently finally broke, but I definitely treated it a lot more carefully than any old Nokia).

I don't know where I was going with this. I haven't forumed for a long time and am still waking up. ☕

I bought a Pixel 2 recently after years of using a Nexus 5. The battery lasts three days of use as opposed to twelve hours. It's nuts.

I don't know where all you folks are getting a dozen notifications a second out of. I get a notification for any incoming messages or emails and that's it. I think there's three or four apps I've turned notifications off for altogether because if you get tired of seeing notifications you can just do that unilaterally for an app.

It had the most descriptive bluescreens of the VxD-based Windows releases. That makes it the best one.

(The best 90s OS is OpenBSD 2.6. Fight me. )

okay so i understand why people dont like it and the cortana/security issues are pretty bad, but i actually do really like windows 10! :x i grew up using windows and vista was faaar worse in my opinion. windows 10 has been really handy for me, i love the start menu and the apps. i never liked apple, but to be fair ive never given linux a try because it seems too complicated for me!

Oh yeah, a comment I forgot to make re: aspect ratio when it was brought up a while ago: 4:3 is orders of magnitude nicer than 16:10 or 16:9 for getting work done, and even 16:10 is generally worth the premium when it's available.

That's probably the worst part for me in the adjustment.

I have greatly enjoyed not needing to charge my phone more than once a fortnight and being okay with the ability to just drop it when I'm having low-spoon days and just klutz everything ever.

Oh, right. Vista.

I really liked Vista. Probably helped that I had a machine that could capably run it, though. (iirc, a lot of its bad rap was manufacturers trying to cram it on underpowered hardware?)

For a while I even had better luck with it than 7.

(also WinME was, from my experiences, pretty damn solid)

oh my gawd (faints)
okay to be completely clear there were a lot of things i liked about vista and at the time we got it i thought it was beautiful and absolutely loved it. but it ran so slow, i dont know enough about optics i couldnt tell you why this was.. but it just got slower and slower over time and everything kept breaking. and to be fair it was a shared laptop, possibly had some viruses that i wouldnt have known about at the time.

my actual worst experience overall with it was the parental controls center?? it constantly had popups and stuff. my parents actually used these features so maybe this isnt something anyone else had to deal with but i absolutely hated it 9_9 ... at one point my parents set it to log off my account at like 10pm and i had friends who were 'hacker' types help me get around them lmfao. that part was kind of entertaining at least.
