I'd recognize it if someone showed me it, but. Still. ____________________

Oh man, NeoPlanet, I remember that fondly during my teenage years. now around that time (saaaay 1999-2001ish?) there was this experimental 3D social platform, where you can travel around this vast 3D world with other virtual avatars around you, and there were certain links you could click on that would take you to a browser window with said link. Maybe there were flying whales? I barely remember it, but it never lasted very long ____________________

| I can swear there's a lost Bugs Bunny cartoon that hasn't been played since 1997 called "Rabbit Stew" that has these jokes: Bugs Bunny climbs a tree, Elmer chops it down, runs away and yells "timber". Then it falls directly on his head. Then Bugs shows up munching his carrot from the side of the screen. Later on, Elmer is chasing Bugs. Bugs turns around when he gets to the end of the cliff. Elmer runs straight off the cliff. Elmer notices and tries running back. Bugs gives Elmer an anvil and he falls down. Later, Elmer is chasing Bugs again. Bugs dives into a hole. Elmer grabs his leg while diving and pulls it out, finding that it's a fake leg with a stick of dynomite tied to it, which immediately explodes. |

I don't know about browsers, but I did once download an official Hey You, Pikachu screen saver. (From nintendo.com, so probably was legit ) I remember being amused at how badly it missed the point by having a static logo in the corner. Also, my mom swears there was an episode of the roadrunner show where the coyote catches him, he cries, and the coyote lets him go. We've never found it. I did see one where he catches him and holds up a sign to the audience like "okay, now what?" but apparently that's not it. ____________________ |

![]() so, for a while i've been trying to remember a couple of the educational games i had as a kid. i do have a few of them figured out, but there's been a couple i just haven't been able to place - a minigame where you control or help a rooster, navigating around a maze to collect piles of seeds. his catchphrase was "i feel the need for seed". i think the art style was much softer than the JumpStart style (no hard outlines)? games i had for sure that they aren't from: jumpstart toddler (1996) some version of jumpstart Kindergarten? Reader Rabbit's Interactive Reading Journey For Grades K-1 (1997, what a mouthful) jumpstart 1st grade (2000) jumpstart 2nd grade deluxe (2000, disc 1 is identical to the 1996 release) ____________________

Originally posted by SC Back in 1987/1988 there was a commercial for a 976 number featuring a claymation clown named "Chuckles", and it implied that if you called and sang into the telephone, you would become a rock star. It started out with the clown singing "Time to rock 'n roll with Chuckles the Clown, we are waiting for the sound of your tone! (at this point it switches to a boy jumping up and down on a bed, with his mom vacuuming) You can be in the Chuckles band, just sing into the telephone!" (here, the kid is now on the stage, as a rock star, and looking quite feminine the way he is dressed. He takes over singing) "You can be in the Chuckles band, just sing into the telephone!". The scene switches back to the clown babbling on about "get your parents permission, blah blah blah, 75 cents a minute blah blah blah". I wanted to call that number so bad back then, scince my mind was corrupted by shows such as "Beverly Hills Teens", and the clown implied that I could end up with a recording contract, but alas, 976/900 blocking was enabled on our phone line. The reality most likely was, the kid would sing into the phone, and he would hear his voice played back with some crappy, generic, very low-fi background 'rock' instrumentals. I've been trying to find this commercial for YEARS now. I went through just about every 80's kid commercial compilation from 1987-1989, tried all kinds of keyword combinations including 976/900 numbers, having to sift through all of the unrelated Mary Tyler Moore "Chuckles the Clown" videos, I used different search engines, and different video sites, but NOTHING. I know it wasn't a local Philadelphia 'service' because a few people who grew up in other states mentioned this commercial, but it is as if the handful of us passed from one universe into this one where CtC never existed. I am just shocked that this commercial did not appear in any of those compilations, because it aired several times a day, everyday when the service was active. Interestingly enough, I did find "The Easter Bunny's Party" commercial which was by the same company who ran the CtC number, so there is a glimmer of hope there. Oh the jingle: "It's the Easter Bunny's party! Come on everyone! We'll find the eggs the bunny hid! What fun! What fun! What fun!" |

there's another game i remember existing on RealArcade but i always forget what it was called
it was like this puzzle/RTS hybrid that took place on mars or something, and you had to place these gray tetromino-like wall pieces to surround your guys to keep them safe from attacking aliens or something. i think it had scoring based on how many people you saved at once before the inner part of the wall gets obstructed ____________________ |

i remember hearing about some video game only auction site that cracked down on bootlegs. might've just been called videogameauctions or something like that but i don't think the auction site itself lasted very long.

| Years back, I think this must have been 2008 or 9, I vividly remember watching this series of "parodies" of the Pokémon anime. The only joke I can remember was a running gag where May gets fat (because that was the height of comedy in 2009, apparently) and eats SlimFast to, well, get slim fast. Later on, I think in 2014, I remember there was this song made from a bunch of samples where the video was a guy with a pipe and a pretty thorough 1940s look, but the video was obviously recorded that year just in black and white (given how obviously crisp and digital the footage was and the fact it was in 16:9 with no evidence of cropping), sitting at a desk and pulling a bunch of expressions to the music, which had a bunch of samples from the '30s and '40s cut up. The whole thing had a pretty jake chudnowey vibe to it. When the audio said the word "smile", the guy would smile with his pipe in his mouth. Also, this might be a modern invention, but I might remwmber his outfit changing a bunch later on in the song, gaining and changing hats as well. ____________________ ![]() |
