In this thread: we post about things that we have seen on the Internet or in media and whatnot, yet you have found almost nobody that remembers said thing, like it's as almost if you dreamt it up at some point.

I'll start with two of mine:

I remember watching a video that was featured on Yahoo! Video (remember that??) in the mid-to-late-2000s that was someone pranking an audience of people into thinking that there was a new video game when in reality it was just a pre-programmed video.

The game involved four-player co-op, spongebob player models, and lots of glitches. i SWEAR this video was on the front page of yahoo! video (or some other non-yt video site) at some point but i just can't find it for the life of me.

The other thing is: does anyone remember this website from the mid 2000s that had several programs to send like. message box spam (or even in-a-pro-pro content?) to you (or maybe someone you wanted to prank?) for some reason? (I know it sounds weird, but that's how I remember it) There were different tiers (I think they were all free except for one??) of the same program that you could download and even an online demo of some sort. I remember the page having a generally dark theme (black or dark blue background), if that helps.

But uh. Yeah. Go ahead and share the things you remember but nobody else does here.

There was a show called "American Gothic" in the 1990s that I frequently wonder if I imagined, because nobody ever seems to remember it.

It was set in a fictional town in America's south, and was all kinds of creepy, with a sheriff that was kind of the devil or something? He was all kinds of gross and manipulative and rapey and murdery and had the town in the palm of his hand with his magical devil powers.

In the early days of the World Wide Web, I remember going to the kid-oriented Bonus.com. To visit the site, you'd click on a link that would open up their super special Scooter Browser which was just a pop-up window with frames pretending to be a browser while banner ads cycled at the top. Almost none of the content was original, but it was an interesting collection of curated content - mostly games, but links to other things as well.

The games tended to be in Java. Not Javascript, Flash, or even Shockwave. I doubt most of them even exist online anymore (and the few that do, Java will probably complain about them because they're unsigned applets). A few that I remember offhand:

Ponta's Quest - Platformer starring a tanuki. Had a weird but strangely workable mouse control scheme where you move the mouse to different parts of the screen to walk and jump. Apparently still online?

Think Tint - Annoying game where you have to pogo up a spiral tower by jumping onto different colored tiles. You select a color to move, but who knows which tile of that color you'll move onto! Still online here.

I remember playing a few games from this listing as well.

There was an unfinished Myst-like which seems to have disappeared from the web. I don't remember its name. Basically a UFO beamed you up into space and you had to visit different elemental planets and solve their puzzles to return home. The sand, forest, and ocean planets were the only ones finished.

The planets in that game had repetitive two-second looping background music that restarted every time you clicked something, but somehow I still found it engrossing. In the sand planet you explored a sand cave. In the forest planet you went along a wooden boardwalk to a large treehouse to solve a weird lightbulb puzzle. In the ocean planet you took a submarine to some pretty glass towers to toy around with some clocks. I didn't understand most of it but just thinking about it now is making me want to play a Myst-like.

In terms of non-game content, they featured The Cats' House. While its website is still online, the house itself now exists only in spirit. Oh well...

There was a TV show I saw once or twice that I've never been able to find again. It was a game show similar to Guts, Legends of the Hidden Temple, and The Crystal Maze. It involved kids being given instructions by big robot talking heads and then running around a maze with different themed areas completing objectives. I'm not entirely sure I didn't just dream it, though.

My family had a Mac growing up, and a lot of the obscure old games I played on it are hard to find information on. I've found most of them through looking through Macintosh Garden and Macintosh Repository, but there are a handful I still can't find.

One of them was a maze exploration game with a built-in editor. You could place tiles, your character's location, items, enemies, etc. It had very simple graphics with a little bit of color. It was similar to Drawmaze, but not quite the same.

Another one was a very simple and short point-and-click adventure game. It had a few rooms to explore and a couple of items you needed to collect. The game didn't actually keep track of which items you had collected, so it would bring up prompts asking if you had them. You could just lie and immediately win the game.

anyway, there’s one show on Nickelodeon that was like Star Trek but with people from Salute Your Shorts and All That. for the life of me, i can’t remember the name of it and no one i talk to seems to remember it exists. recently a friend confirmed that it definitely existed and told me the name but i forgot it as well as who told me. the mystery lives on.

There was a PS2 Action RPG made by Idea Factory where you play as Hiro from Spectral Force. I forgot what the name was but I think it was part of the Spectral or Generation of Chaos series.

That’s the closest Nick show from the 90’s with a space theme that I can think of at the moment. Hell, I don’t even remember what it was about without reading the summary, let alone cast of characters. If you were referring to some other show then I can’t say I remember without doing an all out digging session on the web.

oh i kinda remember space cases! i mean, only really vaguely and i don't really remember anything about it, but i do remember it existing and watching it

one of the first games i ever played was a weird detective visual novel type thing in the DOS/Windows 3.1 era. it had a super heavy film noir aesthetic and i think it used a lot of blue colors? for some reason the thing about it that stuck with me the most is that as the story to the game progressed the story to the game changed in some major way and your like, office ended up covered in tons of papers and was a big mess? i just remember there being a fundamental shift in the narrative and getting the feeling of "everything has changed" way and that was really striking to me at that age for some reason

anyway, i've never been able to find it or any information on it or what it was called at all. i've tried looking through lists of DOS mystery games and not a single one of the names has jumped out at me as being even kinda vaguely familiar, and everyone i've asked about it, even friends who played a lotta PC games in that era, has NO idea what i'm talking about and acts like i'm crazy

even like when i got really into finding old DOS games i knew i'd played when i was a kid -- i was able to find stuff like Brix and God of Thunder and Shooting Gallery, and even this really weird game where it felt like you were in a big maze shooting people with guns and the perspective was super unique and interesting to me at that age, but this weird mystery game from like a billion years ago has eluded me completely

There was a video back in the mid to late 2000's I remember seeing.

It was Japanese with Yu-Gi-Oh characters in a classroom and there was a song in Japanese about different bra sizes that kinda sounded like like "One little, two little, three little". It was also kinda hand drawn and slideshow like. It was really stupid, yet kind of amusing in the artwork.

It got pulled from my YouTube favorites and I've seen nothing about it since. Kinda wish I could see it again.

If I was a betting person then I doubt it will hold up. It had a short time window of existence and it’s probably dated. It remains a peculiar and interesting slice of Nick history but I suppose there’s only one way to find out if it holds up or not...

this might be a bit stupid but theres a video that was uploaded like 10+ years ago by the youtubers who made the naruto abridged series, and it was a song they made for another youtubers birthday and it went like.. Could it have been one of the Terminal Reality games like Terminal Velocity, Fury3, or Hellbender? I played Hellbender as a kid, I believe it came in a bundle with the Sidewinder 3D pro.
