I would really like a Raptor Blackbird motherboard. I mean, I will get one when I've saved up enough for it, I have all of the other parts of the build so just the motherboard and CPU would complete it all to become a functional computer, but until then it'll be a pipe dream and I'll have to satisfy myself with Power Macs instead.
In terms of stuff I'm less likely to get, I'd love one of those ADC CRTs to go along with the Quicksilver, but I know I have an objectively better (1600x1200 at 75Hz) CRT, it's just a little uglier and would match better with a Gossamer G3. I might be interested in a second example of that CRT, though, in order to drive dual displays out of the Blackbird.

I use a rice cooker and there are no real considerations to make IIRC, though I have a simple one and I don't know if there might be any regional differences. I have one that's similar to this one:

Only things to mention are the differences using it. You should put more water than you're used to with a normal pan, but aside from that, it should automatically do its thing, just leave it cooking and wait until it finishes automatically. Oh, and also remember to clean the water vapor thing that it has on one of its sides (if it does have it). That thing will get dirty quick, and it should be half-full of water after you use the rice cooker once.

i've used rice cookers my entire life, from cheap ones to really fancy japanese luxury market ones. for the most part, they are all capable of what you need. i spent the greater part of the last 3 years using a really tiny €20 rice cooker i got at a chinese discount store in The Hague. it made so little rice that i had to cook rice every other day. so i'd suggest, if you're cooking for yourself, get one that advertises at least `3 cups' of rice (~0.65L of rice). this way you have enough for a week, which you can freeze.

the cheap, low-capacity rice cooker i used. i've since upgraded and given this one away to a friend.

if you are willing to spend some money on something nicer, i suggest getting ones with clamshell-like designs and look for ones that advertise `fuzzy logic'. these use computer chips to regulate the temperature, which prevents burning. sometimes ones like these turn up for really cheap at thrift stores. i got mine when i had one for $25, which was a really good deal since they're usually like $200 new, but i've seen them go for as low as half of that sometimes. brands to look out for include `Zojirushi', `Panasonic', `Tiger', and `National' (which is actually a sub-brand of Panasonic). korean brands like `Cuckoo' should be fine too, although i just don't like how they look as much… personal taste.

example of a high end rice cooker you may come across

most importantly, make sure to take good care of all the parts. the worst thing is having your rice get stuck to the pot and creating a cleaning hassle for yourself. so make sure you put the rice away when you're done for the day, clean the pot gently without damaging the non-stick surface, and so on.

hope this helps! 🍚

I could probably do with a pair of wireless earbuds for sleeping. I can't sleep without sound, and have recently been getting my cable wrapped around me, no doubt wearing it out. Doesn't have to be a good pair.

Ah, thanks for the explainer. I'll keep that in mind next time I need one! There's a comfort food I haven't had in ages that needs rice, so I'm going to need one at my first place.

've been researching getting an upgrade to my 5yo laptop as it takes about 7 whole days days to bake textures in a middling complicated model whilst it runs on an fps of about 1.
Unfortunately I cant get too far in withought running into the glorius PC master race, their gpu arms war and whole gmae fetishization that goes on in that quadrant of the net. I get sick of all of it and refuse to continue any research untill blender freezes, crashes, dies and my last save was of 2 days ago.

Its a vicious cycle.

Consider Framework.

Right now, the one thing I want most of all is a new USB Type-C cable. Mine is completely and utterly gone, it only works at specific angles and that's no good.

To be honest, I've been wanting to amass a timeline of computers starting in the '70s so I can make a series of videos on each one. Trying to be as non-Intel with my choices, but I will talk about the IBM PC clones and the Pentium Pro (or PII, they're both P6). I'd also throw a Mac Clone in there, looking at the Daystar MP models.

i avoid this by having a friend who is on top of all of this stuff for me and just consulting with her, but i mostly only get Panasonic laptops at this point, and so it's a matter of asking her whether the computer is good or not.

although at this point, i feel like specs are secondary to me and the actual experience of using the laptop is the most important. if i get a new one, it'll be an improvement specs-wise regardless. but my main laptops right now are from 2009/2010…

Currently bidding on a MacBook2,1. It's heresy, but I wanted to play with Libreboot and amd64-only distros like Trisquel.

when the 2012 MBP and the 2015 MBA eventually die, i'm thinking of maybe getting a laptop with one of AMD's recent "APUs" in it, meaning without dedicated graphics. not having dedicated graphics would mean longer battery life, and also it would probably be cheaper...

i hear that integrated graphics have come a long way. assuming i don't get into modern AAA games (Unlikely.) i could honestly see a recent laptop Ryzen being able to handle anything that i find fun, while staying low-power and costing a bit less in the process... oh, and if there's no nvidia, then linux will be less hell when it comes the time for my annual linux phase

it would have to be 16:10 or 3:2 though, and nothing comically high resolution that will take away from performance and make old software look derpy

I recently saw a 4:3 two-in-one, but it was more of a folding tablet with a keyboard that just happened to have a Core i5 in there.
At least it seems like more and more flagships are adopting 3:2, with a few 16:10s in there. Hopefully that'll flow down to the lower end soon. The one thing I don't like about the new PowerPC Notebook project is that they're using a 16:9 laptop -- to be fair, it's just whatever chassis was on hand that was big enough to fit everything, but I definitely think that former PowerBook users would appreciate 3:2 a lot more for the next revision. At least the board schematics are going to be published online...

i'd buy it if it had a keyboard and a trackpad and it folded at a hinge between the screen and the keyboard instead and FUCK that's just a laptop.

That certainly has the trappings of a laptop. I agree, though. Not that I need another 14.1" XGA laptop, but 1440x1080 or something would be nice.
I wonder if they sell 4:3 laptop displays still... you'd need to custom-make or repurpose an older 4:3 laptop chassis. Ideally the latter, something I really hope I get around to is making 17" iBook G4 bodies and using them to house that aforementioned laptop motherboard. I especially like the keyboard feeling on these, clicky enough to provide good feedback.
I'm happy 3:2 is around and used in actual normal laptops still, though... not everyone wants to touch their screens.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
