I wish I could make use of the PCMCIA and ExpressCard slots on all the old thonkpads I keep and on my current server, an Acer Aspire 7220 I got for free. I was looking at data acquisition cards with analog outputs, to maybe try to output a 1seg feed for the PSP's TV tuner.

I have an Acer P191w that I would switch out with some old piece of junk Gateway monitor nearly as old as I am with a white balance in the region of Edgar Winter in a blizzard riding a polar bear every once in a while; each one was a tradeoff with the other. The P191w had a decent picture but a refresh rate of 60 hz; the Gateway had a refresh rate of 75 hz and after using the Gateway, going back to the P191w I'd end up getting slightly nauseous and eyestrained because then I'd be able to see the monitor visibly flicker, dark to light. I ended up asking my grandma for a CRT monitor for Christmas, got one, and now I have the best of both worlds and a smoother and more lifelike experience with games that support it than I ever had with flat panels, but I will admit that watching videos and playing some games that expect 16:9 is a lot more annoying on a 4:3 display rendering at 1152x864 than it ever was with 16:10. It's just the refresh rate that I can't get over, I need something higher than 60 hz (maybe even 75hz), but any flat panels with a high refresh rate are too expensive and too wide for me, as someone who does a lot of reading and writing.

Hence the CRT.

I feel you, I really want to play with one. I've recently been selling my games and going the much more expensive flash cart route, but I figure years from now when I'm an old lady still gripping onto Final Fantasy I and shit some descendent of that project will probably be the best move. For now I'm too attached to my aging plastic.

Any reason you'd want that over an EZ-Flash Junior? I was going to go all Everdrives all down the line but I couldn't justify the price gaps for such similar featuresets for my Game Boys.

M1 is pretty cool, but I don't like the concomitant inward movement of the walled garden. At least there's an effort to get Linux on there.

i use a mac as a laptop and windows for a desktop, the laptop for being in bed or out of the house and the desktop for projects or games and stuff. works well but not sure whether i'll be playing with windows 11 when the time comes

I have this habit of just using technology that works best for the market segment I need it to and at the price point I want it to and that results in me being generally vendor agnostic

My desktop is a Windows machine, my laptop is an M1 MacBook Air, my phone is an iPhone, my switch is a Cisco Catalyst, my server is a VMware box with a couple Linux VMs on it doing Linux stuff, and my router runs OpenBSD.
