My 2010 laptop appears to have died its final death, so I guess I'm getting a push to replace it with either a new netbook type laptop or a tablet or something like that.

Been considering an MS surface for a while, TBH.

I basically just want a laptop, any laptop, that isn't my damn Chromebook... Chrome OS is such a piece of shit (and I've been trying to switch to Firefox anyway), the later updates have been severely harming performance on my Chromebook, and since it's an ARM one I don't really have any options for other OSes...

As far as specific technology goes, I'd really like some high-end Apple stuff (like a better iPhone than my SE and a good MacBook), but at the same time, I could never afford that xux

I tend to like Apple's hardware and software, but I pretty much despise them as a company... I like them more than Google, but that's not saying much. I think if I got a new laptop though at some point, it'd probably be a relatively cheap Windows one

Honestly? I feel the same way towards the laptop I got in 2012, and I got that from my parents. The last time I poked at it, it was noticeably slower at loading the system from startup, even by today's standards.

as much as i love the 3DS,
the DSi is still to this day my fav way to experience DS games
the bigger screens with perfect scaling is just. so nice
im also extremely into this design of fm radio, the sony icf-7500
it's just such a cool sleek design for the 70s. feels timeless, yknow?

as for less old tech, i guess i still want a newer, less crummy laptop
i'd also like to have the screen on the hand-me-down iphone 8 plus i'm using replaced
it's cracked diagonally from top right to bottom left... kinda sucks

everything is kind of a distant hope though,
since i'm so broke

I'd love a transistorized clone of the Hammond Novachord.

For the uninitiated, the Hammond Novachord was a 1939 fully-electronic synthesizer. No tonewheels. It operated through running twelve oscillators, each divided down for each playable octave on the instrument.
Further Timbres were generated through the use of analog filters, alongside other features, such as electro-mechanical vibrato.
So, basically almost entirely electronic!
It manages to found remarkably modern, rather like the 70s/early 80s era synths that came out over time.

Of course, 144 of the machine's 163 vacuum tubes were used just for the key on/off functions.
There's also a great deal of custom value capacitors in the machine, over a thousand of them.

I'd love to see the machine miniaturized into something the size of a standard keyboard synthesizer. But still function, electronically, exactly the same way as the original 1939 machine.

There is, of course, other aspects of the machine that are massive, and would need to be not exactly-the-same in cloning, but it's either the machine is cloned, and a good starting point for people wishing to experience the instrument, or at least something very very close to it - or the machine dies completely with time, thanks to its bulk and rarity.


It is just a bit of a shame I actually have zero skill playing a real musical instrument!

I've been really interested in getting myself one of these Fighting Commander controllers lately >u< I like fighting games, but none of my controllers are too comfortable for them (plus I prefer Street Fighter which uses six buttons), so I feel like I'd at least play them a little bit more if I had a controller like this hehe

You can also look into the Retro-Bit Saturn controllers which are cheaper and I found works rather well for fighting games, but the only options they currently have match the original layout exactly (they're going to release a controller with a controller with a select button and analog sticks later this year, but I'm not sure exactly when and it might be bluetooth only)

That's cool, but it wouldn't work as well for me as the Fighting Commander since it doesn't support PS3/4, which some of my fighting games are on (such as Super Street Fighter II HD Remix)

I'm half indulging the idea of getting a beefier iPad Pro for drawing on, as I really love Procreate and how that is to use, but mostly I just wanted to buy myself a treat with my termination pay and I can't think what else I might actually get use out of.

I currently do all my drawing on an older iPad Pro with Procreate and an Apple Pencil, so I know I would use it. And then I'd hand my current Pro to my husband, and he is thinking about kiddy-proofing his old iPad for the boy to play Toca Boca games on.

actually i got a DSi for the same reason. they were really easy to come by at thrift stores at one point where i used to live. i barely game these days, but i still know that this was the best way to experience DS games if i ever decide to start diving into the DS library.

update: i want a few old macs. stuff like the famous lickable translucent candy boat anchor but also a macbook pro that's preferably post-sandy bridge would be nice so i can get 3 months of use out of it before apple inevitably switches to ARM processors and fucks up compatibility everywhere

i also kinda want a sony mavica for some goddamned reason (it uses floppies as its storage medium). i kinda like the way old digital cameras look these days with the weird line-y artifacts and faded colors and all...

i kinda don't want as much game stuff as i used to because i'm just not as super into collecting retro games anymore (although i maintain that the original famicom is still cool as shit and i still want one, same with the GBC and original GBA). i tend to just gravitate towards emulation these days cuz it's just so much easier than digging out w/e thing, finding some composite cables, plugging everything in, dealing with wires everywhere etc

owning a nice older DOS or 2000s windows computer, otoh... that'd be cool as shit tbh. something from the i386 or early pentium era or whatever. although i wouldn't know where to start in picking a specific one...

if you do, i encourage you to submit to @digicam.love if you want, a community which me and two of my friends run focused on digicams. we've been covered by Mashable and also host photography walks in many cities around the world (so far they've included NYC, LA, Copenhagen, and Ljubljana).

im thinking im going to grab a dsi the next time i have significant amounts of money
there's a really easy way to hack it nowadays
it doesnt involve any sort of downloadable app which is no longer accessible like flipnote or dsi browser
i probably wont use it all that much as i'm already occupied with persona q2 on 3ds
(and mario maker 2 soon)
but still. nice to have, cool to play with, yknow?
