Also known as, wardriving. I have WiGLE on my phone (and tablet) and use it sometimes when driving around to collect fun SSIDs from all the WiFi points around town.

I've been thinking about making a master list of them just so I have them handy and don't have to keep copying the database from my device, but ... effort.

Anyway, any funny wifi network names around? One of the funnier ones from this trip was "Connecting..." ... but also the endless horde of "FBI Surveillence Van #38" and clones. This one had about 5 different variations of that...

Another one from tonight was "For a good time call...", and I assume the password to that AP was "8675309"

Edit: I also enjoy variations like "Malware", "virus.exe", and "Virus Distribution Center"

I never really look at SSIDs since I use a ethernet cable and wireless is not really working here. But I looked anyway and...

One of the SSID's I'm near is named:
Man's not hot

sorry, not much else here

not that much funny SSIDs arround.

One neighbor had uoykcuf, but changed it to was_guckst_du, which means: What you looking at?

That's about it.

A little ways down the road both "FBI Field Access" and "Virus Server" show up. Other than that the only funny SSIDs are the unsecured HP printers everywhere.

Someone at work sarcastically named a test device "linkskee" after how customers mispronounce Linksys, and another is "DEVON!Box" after uhhhhh {insert joke about regional naming of luncheon meats}.

There's not any funny ones nearby where I live right now. Just one somewhat rudely named one owned by a newer neighbour.

We used to have a few FBI Surveillance ones. Pretty boring and common.

Someone used to have one which they cycled random snippets of Queen songs for the name. Changed almost weekly. Was probably a pirate radio since it was also never secured.

This building is super-boring in terms of SSIDs... With maybe 3 exceptions, it's all just router defaults, many of them apparently cable boxes from the same provider - same as mine, but I changed the SSID.

Some other ones I saw around here were "*Hyun-Ae" (which is a character in some story), "I'm a PC" and "I'm a PC Too", "Bill Wi the Science Fi", and probably the weirdest one I can immediately recall, "Uncle Touchy's Puzzle Basement", which appears to be some joke from some comedian.

current SSID is BAD INTERNET because the router we were using wouldn't load it's own router homepage... what a wonderful time it was setting that trash up.

My fiancΓ©e's one has been the aubergine emoji πŸ† for years, which, eh, doesn't work too well on some older devices. We kept talking about going wardriving, but never got around to it for some reason. Looking at WiGLE, there's only default ISP router SSIDs around anyway. :(
I had a friend whose one was "I'll steal your credit cards" or something too.

Edit: Gah, automatic smiley->emoticon conversion.

Just turn on WiGLE and go driving, that's what I do. It's a nice excuse to explore!

I really annoyed a friend once by turning on the loudspeaker mode in that. And that was the first and last time I went wardriving, I guess.

I knew someone near where I lived that had "Virus.exe" (or was it "Malware.exe"?). It was the same person that ended up breaking one of his HDDs because he didn't believe that people's hands had static eletricity.

Okay, these two are pretty good. "Winternet is coming" is one I've seen more than once here...
