Fine with me. I was actually kind of annoyed when my husband started naming his stuff after NGE because I wanted to do it.

But I also love Watership Down to bits, and in particular it's based on the rabbit mythology. So, because my iMac is awesome, it's Frith. That makes my laptop El-Ahrairah, my trusty phone Rabscuttle, and my iPad Pro the Black Rabbit of Inlé.

I name my OS's hard / external drives after obscure webtoons/webcomics.
  • C: - Marcus (Brother Marcus from Crow Cillers)
  • D: - Dawson (Joel Dawson from Bonus Stage)
  • E: - Eduardo (Eduardo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends) wait. that's not a webtoon. OR OBSCURE. D'OH.

I don't really name anything else at the moment, though. Heck, my VPSes have remained un-named for quite some time. I should really get on that.

EDIT: I've decided I'm naming my XP Dell Dimension 4600 "Baja," after the Baha Men. Because the PC was made in 2003, when the Baha Men were still vaguely relevant. [shudder]. Plus the name is short and cute and reminds me of Super Mario Sunshine. And Baja Fresh. [licks lips]

Ah, I forgot hard drive names were a thing!

That's how the whole naming thing started, actually - I'd recently hackintoshed my netbook, and "Macintosh HD" felt like a misnomer. So I named it after what I was listening to at the moment.

Later on down the line I popped a new hard drive into the iBook, and again, named it after what I was listening to.

I ended up doing this one more time when I briefly installed Snow Leopard on my desktop. Unfortunately, I think a slight hardware issue ended up killing this and I just stuck to running Windows 7 on that machine.

I never really named my hard drives outside of Mac OS, for some reason. I know I named a virtual BasiliskII disk "terrible carpet" or something, but I'd have to dig all those files up to recover their names.

I've never actually owned more than one (usable) computer at the same time, so I've never really had to come up with interesting names for them. Now that I have some network storage at home (that I don't actually use) maybe I should, though.

Closest I've probably come was when I used "polaris" as the name of a web server I was running on the family desktop for a while. Also, my phone is "the mystery phone" for reasons I don't really know (maybe that is the reason?)

i name all of my devices after birds~ it started with my old laptop blackbird and my iphone owl. my new pcs name is grackle and my current android phone is nightjar. i think my tablet is starling or something like that :p

edit: correction, my androids name is starling. i remember doing this now because its gold-flecked! nightjar must be my tablet in that case~

My old computer was named after my mother's favorite Pokemon, Celebi. Thus, I named the beefy new computer CelebiPrime.


Meanwhile, my two favorite USB drives are named after battleships in Star Fox 64: Dorisby and Grazan. Naturally, when I got a third USB drive, I named it... Fluttershy.

I usually name my HDD's after worlds, my old disk that isn't connected currently have a partition for each of the Zelda Oracle game's setting. The Equestria disk is still plugged in currently, I have actually yet to name my new one. My USB stick is called The Moon, which, uh, is mostly a majora's mask reference/joke. Though, I have yet to name my latest disk, hmmm, I should get to that.

As far as computers go I have been kind of lazy? I just name them after myself.
