Staring at hexadecimal values in a hex editor and eventually getting textures and 3D models out of them, I guess!

Also a certain understanding of non-IBM/Wintel computers, like the Amiga (good ol' A500), so that I could in theory set one up and upgrade it, given the right hardware...?

(...thus, nothing of worth in "real life"! Tho I guess my cooking's okay, too? Or that's what I'm told sometimes.)

Collecting malware :V

Programming (various), PHP-GD shenanigans and drawing are also on the list, even if I feel the latter can be incredibly inconsistent.

Fun nostalgia trip: The Jul logo (the triangles!) is actually a php-gd-rendered image. You could probably recreate it if you tried hard enough; each layer is just a layer of transparent triangles laid on top of one another.

The effect is real neat, though. The slightly highlighted border is a post-added effect in Irfanview (brightening the edges and pasting it over the original.)

I wish I had the original; the one used in the banner was converted to grayscale. The original was a lot of pastel colors and looked really cool!

Here's a larger version of the banner:

I'll see if I can dig out the old one later.

I guess I'm good at learning languages. I like learning languages so I do that ... In addition to English I'm also fluent in Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin). I can also converse in French, Italian, German, and to a lesser extent Japanese.

I like to think that I'm good at web design, even though I haven't done much yet. I've been working on a few things and they seem to be working well enough so I guess that's that.

I'm also reasonably good at math for a person who just finished high school, but I'm not confident enough in my abilities to continue it. Same goes for accounting, more or less.

I guess music's a thing I'm okay at? I've written songs, but I don't show them to anyone cuz they're all embarrassing and horrible. I've gotten pretty okay at guitar... not really on purpose -- I just wanted to play some kind of instrument, cuz I always felt the drive to express myself musically, and guitar's always what I had available, so...
(I'm slowly learning piano, too, but I'm terrible at it )

A lot of people tell me I'm good at writing. I really don't understand why; I think I'm a garbage ass trash can idiot writer who can barely string words together. Like, even like, my posts are kind of sloppy and not really terribly nice to read.

I guess I'm okay at speedrunning stuff. I'm not naturally a super great gamer, but I got pretty good at A Link to the Past when I played that, or at least some people tell me that, I guess...

I'm good at, like... applying myself to things. I'm terrible at convincing myself to actually do things, but if I actually want to accomplish something, I usually can pick them up pretty quickly.

I think I'm pretty good at like, reading people and understanding their motivations for doing things. It's not something I've always been good at; it's kinda something I've learned to do as I've aged.

I used to be okay at web design, but I think standards have kinda changed and my skills have atrophied... I can basically only do, uh, web 1.0-ass stuff, haha. I don't even understand the bajillion web frameworks that exist now and I dunno Javascript really and bleh.

I'm good at feeling utterly unqualified in everything I said I'm good at. I'm good at having impostor syndrome.

okay why not

I guess it ended up being fairly similar, except for the part where I couldn't figure out how the true palette was originally handled

i am very good at recreating music - i'm a self-taught play-by-ear sort of person when it comes to guitar, and have figured out how to play hundreds of *other people's songs*. i'm also starting to mess around with piano/keyboards, though i do have some experience recreating piano pieces in, say, FL Studio as well.

i'm also good at noticing patterns in things, whether visually, aurally, or behaviourly - which tends to help out my love of puzzles! i also feel that it's helped me learn languages (formerly français, now 日本語)

let's see, what else.... i'm good at making PBJ sammiches??

It may be easier if you see the originals.

This isn't the original, but it is the "first one". The colors are the same.

Here is a high-resolution one (open in new tab), and I think the one that got reused as the banner:

You can pull the palette values off of either of these directly, two per triangle (outline and fill). They're alpha-transparent, so you might have to use something a little more sophisticated than, say, Paint.

after struggling with transparency issues like SADX, here we go
and so the 4th file was put in that .zip archive

edit: lol whoops the multiplier was off by one and it printed one less triangle set. fixed

It's closer, but the triangles are supposed to be symmetrical. In this case it looks like they aren't quite aligned or something, as they seem to be drawn towards the upper area.
