I don't get all this egg talk, and it also makes sound like it's my fucking choice that I'm in the state I am in currently, and not freaking horrible hoops you need to jump through to get help in this freaking country.

Edit: I realize this sounds a bit harsh since I doubt that's what anyone is actually doing here, but I dunno. v.v

i don't think that makes you an egg, tho, they're specifically ppl who are in the early stages of "questioning"

gatekeeping sucks and it’s absolutely not your fault you’re being gatekept. i’m rly sorry to hear you’re dealing w/ this

Oh okay.

Um, in that regard I don't think it's nice to rush people into conclusions either. It's about self discovery, isn't it? It seems that trying to rush that sort of thing would just alienate people rather than helping them in any meaningful capacity. :o

an egg is someone who is likely or flatly is trans but is in denial about it and/or ignoring their feelings, like me. if you're aware and accepting that you're trans but you're getting fucked over by The Man, you're not an egg any more.

the whole concept of eggism is mostly just because the same patterns appear repeatedly ("i can't be trans, i just think being a girl is... good... er. shit.")

I think a lot of people have at least consider the idea, if only to play around with it in their head. It seems like one of the things that just happens around puberty for most.

for the record i absolutely do not think that being gatekept would mean that anyone is less trans, ever ever ever. gatekeeping can be some awful shit and it causes so much unnecessary misery. i firmly believe informed consent models should be adopted on a more widespread basis. like sofi, i'm really genuinely sorry that you're dealing with that shit

the egg stuff is just silly fun, really, like a lotta stuff in innocent town is. honestly, the main reason i posted what i did is cuz i really liked that dragon ball super screenshot and thought it'd make for a funny meme-y post. i didn't mean anything by it

I was the same way as a kid. I used to like dollhouses and Sanrio type stuff, but I also liked stereotypically masculine things like video games and computers too, so I also had a pretty weird combination of interests... I kinda grew out of some of it but I still probably am a bit more feminine than most guys I know. I've always self-identified as male, though. I've never really suffered from serious gender dysphoria or anything like that.

an artist's depiction of me in 2009:
thank you garfield wikia for being such a valuable resource

the word "serious" as a really suspiciously specific quantifier didn't really help my case. it's like i wanted to make a disclaimer, like, "oh yeah well i kinda actually DO know what gender dysphoria is like, but, uhhhh, i dunno if it's serious gender dysphoria because i dunno if my dysphoria's been the same as other trans people, or, uh, um, uh, you know,"

nor did the fact that i was literally the first person to use the phrase "gender dysphoria" in that thread help my case. how many random people even knew that phrase back in 2009?

(shockingly, this is the part where i reveal that i'd been researching trans resources online, entirely of my own volition and without telling a single soul, for several months by that point. also for the record i am super proud and accepting of my "weird combination of interests" by this point ~)

p.s. sorry for the long post

years and years ago as i was starting to become more social on the internet, i picked up that girls got talked to more than guys, and i liked when people talked to me, so i'd set my profile to female. and it worked! met my first couple internet boyfriends this way. over time i guess i mentally established that being female was more desireable? and i wanted to be liked. a yearish after i started being a girl online i started dating a trans girl in person, and it didn't help matters that she found things like crossdressing to be hot, and i wanted her to like me, so i kinda slipped down even further.

thing is, i'd always be very uncomfortable when i dressed up, was always embarrased. it was only appealing in my head if i could be, i guess, traditionally attractive as a girl? combine low body image with a pervasive laziness and a history of gameing psychiatrists/never opening up to actual people who can help with my troubles and there really wasn't a way for me to feel good about it - but i kept trying, because i wanted her to like me, find me attractive. years later, after my lil sister came out as trans, and i'm finally starting to stop trying to do everything i can to win my ex's attention. i don't really have any want to be female anymore, nor do i even really roleplay as one much anymore.

..and i'm not sure how to end this post. tldr, i wanted to be female so people would like me, now i'm not trying to get people to like me anymore and as a result i don't have a want to be female.

and i'm not trying to say anything about other people who are trans or anything, this is just my history of flirting with the idea. for me it was never a thing that 'just felt right', felt more 'me', or anything. i just wanted attention, as usual.

resume your lighthearted eggposting!!

With regards to all this egg talk. I can ask myself if I'm trans, sure. Hanging around enough people who are inevitably leads to the question. Ultimately though, what matters is how I feel at the moment. Quite simply, there's nothing to "admit" to myself and I don't feel like there are any steps I can take in this direction that would make me happier. I believe there could have been roads in my life which would have led me to the conclusion eventually, but that's not how it's gone.

i feel this a lot tbh. i think i also thought this way right before i found out what "transgender" was and figuring out that's how i felt

this, and the thought that "if i were a girl i would stop being bullied at school"

anyway uh. i just wanted to add that this is really relatable. and as an Official Trans Girl, it doesn't make being transgender any less valid (not saying that's your case though, just in general)

the good news is that if you have Feelings™ but are not entirely ready to dive into the pool you can comfortably settle with genderfluid/nonbinary status and be whatever weird amorphous gender blob you feel fits you best at any given moment

for many years my gender was very thermolabile? when combined with dihydrogen monoxide?.
