I recently moved to a new apartment, so it's been a good opportunity to try to reset from a clean slate and keep things from ever getting to the point of disaster... which they have in my past apartments.

I think for me the best thing to do is to clean things immediately; don't let dishes ever sit, just consider that a part of the dinner process. But it's all much easier when you're already starting from a clean slate

yeah, i think part of having a harmonious roommate relationship is having compatible standards for tidiness. for me, i think it’d be pretty hard to be my roommate b/c i expect ppl to be on top of things. after living for several years w/ someone who isn’t tidy, i can’t imagine having a roommate like that again. everything is labeled, for crying out loud.

I'm currently living in a 2 person apartment with 4 people and a cat in it - and only 1 and a half of us clean (myself and one other person, but they're disabled so they can't do it all the time).

It's very difficult to keep on top of, but I've realised that the easiest way to do it is just associate boredom with cleaning!

sitting there, can't think of anything to do? clean the living room table! it only takes 5 minutes and then the boredom's gone too.

The hardest thing right now is definitely doing the dishes - they stack up beside the sink almost immediately after I just finished washing them, and it feels like an endless parade

I don't have a lot of things, so it's hard to have the apartment be messy, actually. I also have a very strict "no clothes/other junk on the floor" obsession which makes it fairly hard to be messy Because of that, I don't need to clean the apartment to keep it clean because I naturally don't make it messy.... I do still have to do the dishes though, and that sucks...

I was feeling pretty good about getting the dishes on so early this morning, and heading out to playgroup, but I've just remembered I didn't clean up after baby's breakfast.

There are strawberries everywhere. Floorberries.

I vacuumed the living room and the vacuum's collector tub thing, beyond being at maximum capacity before I started, had to be emptied an additional three times. Just the living room.

At some point I need to just buy a goddamn roomba.

Does gardening count as cleaning? I don't know how outside works. I hate gardening.

Gardening is anything but cleaning because you're making everything dirty.

I now have a lil temp. apartment for the time I'm going to the current school, and well...

It's a small living place.
There isn't much stuff either.
I have more than enough free time (usually).
I still manage to be lazy when it comes to cleaning it. Yep.

Well I guess it depends on the gardening. Gardening for me is probably better described as "weeding".

I'm told some people can actually grow things on purpose.

But I thought the whole point of gardening was to soil everything?

More on-topically, I hate cleaning. And dust. It gets fucking everywhere and it seems like there's nothing I can do about it.

As someone who followed that series daily to the end (I joined around halfway in or earlier?), I am always glad when other people appreciate it.

(I made a post on their forums long ago listing all the hidden messages in the comic, heh. I wonder what the author is up to these days...)

Anyway, the progress I made on the living room has mostly been undone by me tearing the bedroom apart in frustration when my laptop VM decided to stop working, and I haven't quite put things together again... ugh. Not enough time in the day.

Some of the comics had hidden messages in the margins around scenes or whatever.

It's basically a reflex that I have. I can't actually plan on cleaning things because most of the time, I won't even get started doing the thing. It has to happen when I have nothing better to do and boredom is creeping in.

In fact, once I had my mom walk in on me cleaning my room spontaneously, and I lost all motivation once I was told to finish. So really, I need to be self-motivated for cleaning to happen.
