Yeah, our LIFX lights are a lot less expensive to run. I think they are brighter than the Hue, but still more efficient than regular lighting at 11W.

I also like that I can turn the lights off from bed. My husband used to just go to bed and leave all the lights in the house on…

I can do that, but from outside the house, too! The future is now.

I think that a lower wattage also helps with heat issues, since any decrease in that is a godsend, especially given how hot it's going to be in a few months...

I can do it from outside the house, but it always freaks out the people who are there at the time…

OH OH ESPECIALLY MY MOTHER IN LAW

It also freaked me out that one time I was showing someone the app and then couldn't figure out why all the lights were purple when I got home.

I'm going to try opening the blinds a little (so more light shows through) and then figuring out a way to get all the bulbs to start cycling; a rainbow through the windows, if you will.

Setting them all red is already kind of interesting

So the green light I had on my room just stopped working yesterday, so I guess I'm back to using the yellow one for now. It isn't as bad as I thought actually, it's a nice shade of yellow.

This might be old news to everyone else, but I quite like remote.lighting for messing with LIFX.

Also, my mother-in-law complained about my f.lux/LIFX light stuff again. She doesn't like it because it makes her sleepy. THAT IS EXACTLY THE POINT. She says it does that because she's old. IT DOES THAT TO EVERYONE. I AM DOING IT ON PURPOSE TO MAKE THE BABY SLEEPY.

Your mother in law sounds like a real piece of work, but I think I've said this a few times now.

I need to get back in the f.lux habit. Might help me get a sleep schedule that makes sense again... but I really do like goofy colors for lighting. If I could get away with it I'd still want to get a few more bulbs for this apartment.

She's definitely very challenging. I guess I'll put it that way. But the lights also make her so sleepy she leaves fairly early, so I'm happy with that.

The f.lux (or 'dawn and dusk' as the LIFX system calls it) effect definitely makes a difference. Before it was built-in to the lights, I had IFTTT stuff set up for years doing it. In addition to actively making you sleepier, it also tends to convey the passage of time better… which I guess also makes you sleepier.

I like the goofy colours too though. I have some pink and purple pastels that are in the bedroom right now. But the rest of the house has now turned all the way to 2500K and is dimming very slowly (I set it to do each change over the course of half an hour). In about an hour and a half, almost all the lights will be nearly out.

This might be a really dumb question, but have any of you folks ever heard of a standard socket programmable light tjingt that doesn't use wifi? I love f.lux luke crazy and Hue seems really nice but i am super wary of having my lightbulbs becoming part of a botnet.

Well, I've seen some coloured LED lights at hardware stores, and there are IR controlled lights around too, they may be suitable. I don't think they have a lot of the customisability though. Like, I think you get a little controller with pre-set colours on them and that's your lot.

In other news, my house is all pink and soft warm white. I've called the theme "Strawberries and Cream".
