Yeah, all of the other ones they had were diskless, and most of the ones online are also diskless... At least some of them are cheaper that way, but NAS hard drives are still expensive

Now I just need to copy all of my stuff to it.

I probably should try a big NAS, huh. Gotten too used to cluttering up my computer with HDDs inside and out.

A NAS is good because they usually have built-in redundancy; most have at least two drive bays, so you can run them in RAID-1. If you have 2 Γ— 4 TB drives, you get 4 TB of storage, and if one of the hard drives takes a shit, you still have all your data.

A different NAS I've worked with had 4 Γ— 1 TB drives in (assumedly) RAID-5, and it'd actually had a failed drive for some time before anybody noticed Even then it was because some idiot ejected one of the working drives while it was on, so it immediately stopped working until that was fixed.

You can have one of those, plus a flash drive for important stuff to back up, too, or other external drives if you need to take those around.

by now it's not technically new, but as of a couple weeks ago I finally was able to get one of these! Came with a couple games, and the displays were soldered down so I won't have to worry about those coming unglued in their due time. It's quite a neat piece of hardware with some fun games, and I've yet to have a single case of headaches or eye strain :p

also in the meantime since then I was able to snag this game, one in particular I was hoping I could find for pretty cheap (although anything is cheap compared to what a US copy will pull *shudders*)
Look at that hee-ho, he's so happy to be on the front of the box!

The .jp box is pure happyness. And the soundtrack is awesome.

I myself am a sucker for Galactic Pinball. Played that more than Wario Land (which I still should finish).

Which games did you get?

The point is more that it's new to you.

Like this!

This here is a Famicom Data Recorder. It's basically a glorified Nintendo-branded portable tape deck. I haven't gotten a chance to test it yet, because, uh, who still has audio tapes around still?

Well, that and a Family Basic Keyboard, which you also need to actually use this for saving data in the, uh. Four or so games that support it β€” Family Basic itself, Excitebike, Castle Excellent, and I think there was another one or something, but I can't remember it.

I also got an FDS that was "tested and working". Unsurprisingly it was not! It is in pretty good shape, but the drive belt, the thing that actually makes it read disks, was, uh. Well it certainly wasn't a belt any more, more like some weird black sludge. At least replacements for that are $5 Γ— 10 on ebay... and in the process BMF got his FDS fully working again, instead of refusing to read disks most of the time.

Also Mach Rider and Wrecking Crew.

Mine still had a Nintendo branded cassette with some demo programms and graphics included.

I don't suppose you dumped that, did you? It would be really awesome to have that preserved, though I have no idea how you'd actually go about doing it. (A backup of the audio but also the raw data stream, since it's analog/digital data? Hm.)

I totally forgot about Mach Rider, but I should've known Wrecking Crew. When I end up getting one, I'll have to see if the US ROMs versions still act properly with the data recorder in a AV Famicom.
