Edit: Wanted to wait until this was passed and became official, and I realize Illinois is one fucked-up state for its own special reasons, but leave it to Illinois government to basically declare they hate Nazis. They also made August 5th Barack Obama Day as a state holiday. Why mention both of these things?

Because Illinois is like a miniature version of US Government but worse somehow in that we can't ever seem to agree on a goddamn budget and it's a constant tug-of-war to get anything done (Protip: Illinois is a bright, blood-red state when you remove Chicagoland), yet both of these have/had bipartisan support.

But I'm rambling so I just imagine this is what's going through IL government's head right now and I'm a little bit proud of my home state RN. Hoping it actually passes, but considering this is the only state to be doing this so far that I know of...

Largest mass shooting* yet in American history happened in Las Vegas last night. As it stands, about 60 have died and over 500 injured. I doubt anyone from Julhouse was there when it happened, but I still want confirmation that everyone's okay.

I'm fine and everyone I know directly is fine, but to say that it was terrible watching the news and seeing the videos was an understatement.

In short, the guy who did this holed up on the upper floors of a hotel tower with more guns than any person should ever need* and proceeded to basically rain bullets on the concert across the street.

* More than zero, but in this case around 20 or so? News is inconsistent.

I’d ask why ordinary people are allowed to have that many guns, but I already know the US is weird about that kind of thing.

A very large portion of US citizens think so too, at the bare minimum to some extent. Basically, a single organization bribed an entire party and pumps out propaganda for the small portion of citizens to lap up.

Watch as we do absolutely nothing here. Or even better, there's a bill in Congress right now that, if passed, would allow for more silencers. I am not making this up.

How many guns are we talking.

I question if there would really be a way to prevent something like this. Not sure the full details on the guy who committed but, on the surface, sounds like he went apeshit and wanted people dead in his sick mind. That’s a difficult thing to properly go up against. At best, I think the severity of the casualties could have been reduced but not eliminated.

IDK, I’m sure more details about the guy will come to light as well as proposed solutions to reduce the scale of casualties and/or likelihood for future events.
