I don't know. North Korea has been and will always be full of shit. Even before they supposedly became "nuclearized", they have made the same types of threats before to South Korea, Japan and the US but then they never do shit. If North Korea really wanted to, it could easily launch an attack on South Korea and there would be a pile up of bodies. However, doing so would launch the world into WWIII and all parties that would be involved are aware of this fact and know it would be a mess. The Korean Peninsula would be beat to hell for sure.

So what does this all amount to? North Korea is just acting tough to gain some sort of recognition vs being the land buffer they really are between China and South Korea. Just watch, in a months time or something, NK will try testing a nuke again, the US will say knock it off and NK will make yet another threat that will be as effective as one of their missiles that was launched into the Sea of Japan. Then which, it'll get quite again.

Furthermore, if North Korea did launch nukes at a country, they'd still have a big army, but one without ancient technology. Sure, they have computers here and there, but they are rare as hen's teeth outside of Pyongyang. They have a big army largely because it's mandatory, with many of them quite inexperienced. At any rate, it would only take weeks to subjugate North Korea. The only reason Kim Jong-Il continues nuclear weapon rattling is to get people panicked and for giving North Korean state media another reason to continue calling him fierce and brave constantly, while also simultaneously flogging jingoisms onto his population.

As for Trump and nuclear war, he's since clarified that nuclear war would be a last resort. Trump also praised Kim Jong Un for backing down from nuclear war on Twitter.

lol, it wouldn't take weeks to "subjugate" the DPRK. that's what the US thought last time--it took 3 years, they bombed every building above a story and killed most of the population and still had to give up. it's not easy to fight a mountainous country.

besides, the DPRK is only going to be on the defensive and in the case of a "pre-emptive" strike from the US it'll get aid from the PRC. don't forget the PRC's People's Liberation Army is the largest military force in the world. it should be against the US's wishes to destroy the Korean peninsula anyway, when its interests in it are to get the rare minerals it holds beneath its soil.

Whoops. That's right. North Korea has more than a few mountains, making it hard to traverse through and helping to encapsulate everything in there. For the Korean War, though, the North Koreans were also armed by Soviets and had the Chinese helping out, making it a pretty brutal battle. In fact, there's an "Anti-American Aid" building right across the Chinese-North Korean border.

However, because China knows another Korean War would likely be a bad thing, they try to calm things down. As for the minerals, that's another reason too, though I doubt Kim Jong-il would know how to use mining equipment properly. They already have enough pains trying to farm (unless it's illegal drugs).

yeah, i think everyone (including Bannon, apparently, but obviously excluding Trump) knows another Korean War would be all-around disastrous.

i don't get where you get the idea that the DPRK people are too unskilled to use mining equipment when most of their trade w/ the PRC is from mining? likewise w/ farming—DPRK is no longer under Arduous March conditions; their economy is on a steady rise & hunger is significantly lower than it was in the ’90s.

btw, 김정일 Kim Jong-il is dead; he died 6 years ago.

I thought I typed Kim Jong-un there, but yes, Kim Jong-il died. Much of the mining equipment is rather old and they have electricity issues that causes problems with mining, though it seems to be enough to dig up resources. I'm not sure if there are enough people to maintain it properly though or have enough to mine more efficiently. North Korea has food again, though that's partially thanks to the fact they aren't limited to state-run collectivized farms.

All I can say is that I worry about NK a lot, especially the last handful of years, but ultimately would be able to reassure myself that Obama wouldn't anything rash. His calm collectiveness, his wisely put-together cabinet, his general dislike for military conflict as a whole... I mean complain about him if you want but I could generally trust what he was doing.

With "why do we have nukes if we can't use them", impulsive and likely very mentally ill Trump in charge and having shit crumble around him as we speak, and with SK/USA military exercises starting the 21st until the end of the month, he's bound to raise tensions further than he did a week ago just for a little but of ego masturbation.

It's gotten to where I'm glad work is being understanding about my situation, but I shouldn't be taking a fucking medical leave due to anxiety due to THIS, for Christ's sake!

Calling Trump mentally ill at this point feels like an insult to mentally ill people. He's just a narcissistic asshole who got a lot more power than he should've ever been allowed, because apparently everything's backwards and failure is actually success.

I think Trump is talking a big game but I don't think NK or him would ever advance to nuclear war. If nothing else, hopefully the people actually running the show know better than to let Annoying Orange near the red button.

True, most mentally ill people don't act like this, but here's seriously something so wrong with his brain that, for those not in he US, there's been growing talk in society/Congress to invoke the 25th Amendment, which were it to happen, would remove him from office on he basis that he is mentally unfit to run the country.

And I mean a vast majority of mentally ill people are aware of their illnesses/conditions and work on improving themselves. Trump is not, and does not.

If it means anything, quite a few psychologists have gone against the Goldwater Rule* to diagnose him as having Narcassistic Personality Disorder.

*Not so much a rule as a formality to not diagnose politicians' mental states. Given the nature of this Presidency, there is credence to forego formalities.

And if anything regarding NK I take some solace in the fact that SK doesn't want war period and would want to give permission first if/when the US/Trump gets to that level of belligerence.
