So, somebody named Robert Hoskin recently uploaded footage he took following EGM staffers around a couple conventions in Japan. I found out about the videos in a post on Protodude's Rockman Corner about the footage of an early build of Rockman 4, specifically the scrapped sphinx boss!

I made a timestamp megapost like this a few months ago for a video of E3 1995, so I figured I'd try making one about these too.

Looks to me like it's 片山まさゆきの麻雀道場 - Katayama Masayuki no Majhong Dojo.

It even has "麻雀道場" on the corner.

No idea. 16:05 appears to have a brief bit of a tech demo.

40:29 is Arliel: Crystal Densetsu, also known as Crystal Warriors.

As for SEGA HQ, they're lucky enough to get permission to shoot photos indoors. To be fair, if I was working there, I'd be nervous that people were filming me without my knowledge.

Thank your for posting those links. The footage from El Viento shows an earlier version of the game, with different dialogue in the intro and a slightly different title screen. The text scrolls at a slower pace. The other big difference is that it refers to one of the bad guys as Al Capone, for the final American version, he had his name changed to Vincente DeMarco.

I've done a full comparison with screens at my site:

Ah, nice work! It does seem odd they would use English text for the intro here.

The Berlin Wall also uses (grammatically dubious) English text for its intro. Weird.

(Also I edited the post with the things Diving pointed out.)

Holy crap Rockman 4 proto with THE SPHINX BOSS!

Truthfully though, seeing it in action now, I can kinda see why it was cut. It looks like a real bitch to hit, not to mention it taking up about 3/4ths of the screen. Good call gameplay-wise, but shame they couldn't get it to fully go.

Seems they were trying to work on keeping it though if the Mega Man 4 page is of any evidence.

The green robot monster in pharoah man's stage acts differently too.

That boss looks absurdly hard. You have to do an awkward jump while getting fired at. Also the boulders seem to have some sort of glitchyness or flickering to them that looks terrible. Very good call to scrap it, though they could have also just made it easier to jump at.

Well at least we can now describe how the boss used to act.

Just noticed another video was uploaded a few weeks ago. Not much closeup footage but there's some other stuff running in the background. Still nice to see nonetheless.

The Gaming Adventures of Edward Semrad - At 10th CSG Gaming Show in Ikebukuro.

6:00 - Shadow of the Beast (Wondermega)
9:55 - Super Double Dragon (SNES)
10:25 - Phalanx (SNES)
10:58 - Blashit (SNES) [different HUD layout it seems]
12:31 - King Salmon (MD)

You can see a Sega R360 cabinet in action around 21:30.

EDIT: Uh... that's supposed to say Blaz-eon lol...

I found the account of the person who uploaded those videos and told BMF about him. Hopefully he can get copies of them.

Argh... I was just considering downloading them too. At least the one with the Rockman 4 footage was saved. It was probably the most significant one.

Metalman put together a nice prerelease page based on the footage. Even got some stitched-together maps going.
