I've been trying to get my ass back into drawing and arting, so at least for a couple weeks I've been doing nightly sketches and posting them up on my deviantART account.

The latest thing that I've done was an illustration of Higurashi Kagome from InuYasha. I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of things that could've been done better though, but looking at that vs previous stuff from years past... there's certainly been an improvement. That was also my first time using Clip Studio Paint along with my now 6-year-old Wacom Intuos 4 Medium on my (recently upgraded with an SSD) Mid-2012 MBP.

Hey! Saw some of this on Twitter and meant to comment, but I'm a bit scatterbrained recently, and stuff happened, and I didn't. Wanted to let you know that you're definitely improving. I liked your Kagome, and it's good to see you tackle a full coloured piece. A lot of what I see from you is lineart but it's good that you're branching out and pushing yourself too.

Also, Clip Studio Paint is super nice, I hope you enjoyed using it! I haven't really dug my teeth into it yet but when I do play with it, I like it.

Might as well link a new thinger here.

And because I didn't link these last year, have some Japanese mayonnaise, a cyborg catgirl, an elf girl of some kind, and some motorcycle.

Naturally though, I didn't finish the motorcycle one because I kept on redrawing it, and in the words of some others, had to "stop polishing [the] turd". Maybe I might try to redo it from scratch and only revise once or twice. Same thing with this that I never quite finished the year before.

The motorcycle thing, unfinished as it is, is really well done. You said you redrew and redrew it, right? It kind of shows… but in a good way.

I mean, when I redraw something over and over, it's usually because I've found things about it that look wrong, and I've fixed them. Occasionally I'll wind up with something that's crap from beginning to end, but more often I'll manage to create something much better than my first iteration.

I'm guessing you stopped because you could still see things wrong, maybe, but weren't sure where to go to fix them… or you just burned yourself out working on the same thing?

Nope. I stopped because certain people in a certain community *cough*/ic/*cough* told me to stop "polishing a turd". Especially with eye position.

In other news, Twintail day was yesterday. That only took an initial skull sketch, line sketch, and then refinement drawing on top, then colors/basic shading.

That's incredibly rude. Although I can relate to the eye position thing… I have chased eyes all around the face, up a smidge, down a smidge, left a smidge, maybe it needs to be foreshortened more… no wait, less… maybe it's the iris and pupil position… just the pupil… blahhh BLAHHHH etc.

With the eye on the motorcycle thing, I think your actual position isn't too bad, but I think maybe the far eye needs to be foreshortened. Like, made narrower. The position on the nose side is just right, so you'd want to move it away from the cheek side.

I think I'll revisit it and also try to keep in mind the foreshortening thing. Drawing in the rest of the nose in red/bluelines might help me too.

The foreshortening thing is one of a variety of problems I run into regularly. I don't quite, at least consciously, understand how perspective applies to the face until I've messed it up and I'm left scratching my head.

It usually takes me ages of wondering what the hell is wrong with the face before I start just… copying the entire image to a new layer and moving eyes around/warping them/rotating them, toggling the layer, squinting, and telling myself it's time to go to bed…

Pretty good. I've had experience with Procreate on my old iPad Mini 1G but it crashed a lot because of the low amount of memory in it.
