First, there was the shooting of Christina Grimmie (22-year-old singer).

And just today, at least 50 people were killed in a shooting at an Orlando gay night club. Another 50+ people were injured there. Also, the shooter was associated with ISIL. Yes, that ISIL. This is the deadliest shooting against the gay community in American history, and possibly the deadliest mass shooting.

Absolutely horrible that this keeps happening, nothing positive comes out of this. Its just 51 dead people (including the killer), loads injured and plenty of destroyed families. I also feel sorry for the police and investigators that were sent there, I imagine its a scene no one would want to be near.

Yeah, it's pretty horrible. I used to live in Orlando when going to UCF... it's hard to believe that such a tragedy occurred so close to me.

This is an awful event and it happened in my area. The worst thing about this is that politicians as usual will offer their "thoughts and prayers" but continue to get bankrolled by awful pro-gun organizations.

I haven't seen any links to ISIL/ISIS being confirmed, all I have heard was that the shooter's father said it wasn't fueled by religion because he had a past of being homophobic. Hasn't stopped news sources from spinning it though and that also frustrates me.

I live less than 10 miles away from where the shooting happened, so needless to say I was pretty shaken when I started to hear the news unfolding last night.

Thankfully found out a few hours ago that nobody that my roommate and I know were there at the time, but a friend of ours frequently volunteers at the nearby hospital and happened to be there when the shooting victims started to arrive. I can't imagine how horrifying and stressful it must have been for anyone involved.

Whether there is an actual link or not, the group has claimed responsibility for it.

To be fair, ISIS uses media and the internet to do the same thing entities like Westboro does when it comes to these tragedies, they take claim of something related to it, either the situation itself, or an entity that "did it out of wrath". Hell, speaking of Westboro they even decided to say something about this situation. I understand the differences between the two (one is literally all talk but the other has actually carried out attacks), but in terms of riling up an audience, they're both playing the same game to me.

It's disgusting to see how people and media are shifting this entire thing to what people want to hear though, and it only gets worse for muslims.

And meanwhile Trump has decided to capitalize on this tragedy by being a complete shit as per usual.

When ISIS shootings/etc happened in France, Trump used that to support guns for everyone. Basically "see, nobody can get firearms except bad guys, and the good guys had nothing to defend themselves".

So much for that.

at least it wasn't Obama going out of his way to complain about the second amendment and attack trump when he should be mourning for them

It seems that the killer had no real ties to ISIS despite declaring allegiance to them. H also declared loyalty to a group in Syria and the Boston Marathon bombers, none of which are affiliated with each other. Why would he do something like that? Well...

According to recent reports, a number of people said they saw him at the club several times, and that he used gay dating apps to meet people there. If that's true, it makes the shooting even more tragic: he hated himself so much because of his sexuality that he tried to convince himself that he wasn't gay by becoming increasingly anti-gay, eventually reaching the extreme.

I enjoy the fact (actually no I don't) that people want the shooter's wife imprisoned for knowing about the plan beforehand but not saying anything.

Granted, yes, she really should have said something, but when you're in an environment where your husband abuses you, you tend to want to avoid rocking the boat as much as possible, because "What if I'm wrong and he's just saying all of this?". The fact that 50 people are dead, including her husband, because of her inaction is punishment enough for her. She's probably beyond miserable and despondent that had she said something that all of this could have been avoided, and she's going to be scorned for the rest of her life, so I really feel there'd be no point in seeing her be sent to prison. Scapegoating doesn't count.

While what she did is technically a crime, I doubt any jury would convict her for the exact reasons you just mentioned. If she does go to trial over it, I guarantee that will be the defense used, or most of it.

Pretty much. I just honestly feel like there'd be no point to it.
