So the new Ratchet and Clank reboot came out a couple of days ago over here in the UK and, in my opinion, is bloody amazing! So good, I completed it (minus some trophies) in 2 days. Whoops. Currently going back through it on Hard Challenge Mode to try and pick up whatever trophies I missed/couldn't get the first time through.

Definitely a worthy reboot of the series, though it's a shame that my favourite, A Crack in Time, is now (possibly?) a thing that didn't happen. I'm hoping they give the same overhaul treatment to the rest of the PS2 series. I'd love to see Up Your Arsenal done the same way.

Man, I love the ratchet and clank games, I kinda fell out of the series though since I don't have, and can't really afford, buying playstation systems. My dad always had PS2's so I played the first four games quite a bit, and the third one is definitely my favourite out of those, but I only got to try the PS3 ones like once. And they were nice, even if I only got to do a quick run through the games.

I would definitely pick up this re-make if I could. I never actually beat the first one in the series. I would say that it was because it was kind of hard, but it's more to do with that it quite a bit of awkward design choices. So I can definitively see why they'd make a re-make of it. That being said, I do think Ratchet loses a bit of character depth by not start off as an asshole and then growing as a character as the series goes on. (Well, mostly the first and second game I guess).

I picked it up on release, just got finished with my hard challenge mode run yesterday where I also went for a couple of trophies. Only have the "use the groovitron on all types of enemies" trophy left, and unsure if I can be bothered to get that one.

Overall I think it was a rather solid R&C game, with a few flaws, the story was nice, especially since we didn't have to deal with asshole Ratchet. But even if the story was nice, the addition of Nefarious felt like just a waste, I like Nefarious a lot, but this version of him just lacked so much of what made him such a great villain.

Another thing I can understand yet dislike is the lack of a true Arena/Coliseum planet. Sure, R&C1 didn't have such a planet, but the arena planet has become a bit of a staple for the franchise, and they took a lot of liberties with the story and other things in the reboot, so adding one new planet to have some arena battles wouldn't be that much of a change I feel.

But even so, I did enjoy this game, if only for the fact that it shows that even if R&C is a bit of a "stale" and non-evolving series, the gameplay is still great, and I certainly hope Insomniac games makes another one. Unsure if I would like them to go back to the original timeline (which they still can even after this game) or try and continue from where this game ends.

Good game overall, would recommend to anyone that likes the R&C games.

Speaking of planets, I was really annoyed that they removed Eudora from the new one; that was my favourite planet.

On the other hand, in the original game, all it got you was the Suck Cannon, which doesn't exist, and an infobot, so it was pretty much a useless filler planet. Still, I would've liked to have seen it all in the reboot. Oh well.

And yes, after Veldin, I was completely expecting an arena planet. Only just realised it didn't even have one. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it certainly would've been fun.

As for the characters, while I enjoyed Nefarious, I didn't like what they did with Drek. He went from being dark and evil, to being goofy and evil. While that fits better with Ratchet and Clank, I don't think it actually fits Drek himself. Makes sense within the context of the game, though.
