General discussion about Mario Maker.

Spoiler:
And how the unlock system is still crap even after the mandated patch.

I just got it and the first thing I did was go through the art book. (And scan my amiibos.) So many neat things!
Of course, because of that, I have yet to make any stages.

There are the levels I created so far:

"Froyo Plains 1" - 8F9E-0000-0012-B04A

"SMB 1-3 (SMW)" - 66C4-0000-0013-1FAE

"Donut Challenge 1" - C7DC-0000-0017-8A9F

"Who Cares Aboot Koopas?" - 1B71-0000-0018-3206

"NES Remix (Run, Mario, Run!) 8-3" - CB1D-0000-0019-630E

The level creator is a blast (except for the friggin' hour or so of clock changing and unlocking).

Everyone follow everyone in Mario Maker!

I made a stage using only the basic parts!

Koopuzzler: FFDB-0000-001A-240F

Also, I think because I triggered the "new parts coming tomorrow" message before updating to v1.01, I don't think I get the benefit of the shorter times yet...

My copy is in the mail!

Now to eagerly wait while it makes its international journey!

The artbook is amazing though! (Yes, I cheated and read the digital copy)

Good news! If you started on v1.0 and updated to v1.01, you'll get the next truckload on the new time rather than the next day. In fact, the developers even planned for this and have a message saying that the truck arrived earlier than planned.

Mine are very basic and not meant to provide much challenge (yet). Enough people are doing that.

Wallkicks and Big Shells
9 f c 0 - 0 0 0 0 - 0 0 1 9 - 3 5 0 5

This one starts with a basic wallkick, followed up by something that works in all "modes": using big shells to break blocks! (There is also a minor jumping challenge to get the top of the flagpole at the end.)

World 1♡2...?
3 e 1 4 - 0 0 0 0 - 0 0 1 3 - 2 1 7 4

First level made. It is inspired by (surprise) 1-2, but not quite the same. There are a few secrets in certain spots, as well.

Easy As 1, 2...?
e a 6 e - 0 0 0 0 - 0 0 1 e - 9 d 0 1
This level was inspired by Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island's Bowser's Castle stages. And just like the latter, one of the four paths here is a lot easier than the others. (There's also a secret outside, too. But the minimap spoils that one!)

I have followed everyone here as well

I did one more level:

"Return to Subcon: Mario World" 018C-0000-001B-9B25

Remade the first level of Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) ... or at least what I could of it.

New level: Leaning Tower of Koopas - 5E41-0000-0019-0D90

Here's a community level spreadsheet I made to keep everyone's level IDs in one place. I'll update it with people's levels as they're posted here. This spreadsheet is also linked in the first post.

I was just thinking about how great it would be for someone to stream. Jul Mario Maker showcase!

Also, maybe it's because I spend so much time making courses, but I think the new unlock times are quite reasonable. I keep unlocking new packs before I can finish making a stage with stuff from the previous pack.

My levels may or may not be quite difficult...

I updated my post with a new stage, a choose-your-own-path pseudo-ghosthouse. It is a bit sillier (and harder) than my previous ones, but there's an easy route, too.

This stage is so much RNG it hurts. I've had five different outcomes, including at least one where I got plastered in the face with a rogue shell.

Fun, but jeez.

Yeah, but I made sure that there's always a safe zone from any flying shells. You just have to wait until the coast is clear.

Here's another stage, this time using the castle set! I used the max room size and filled the limit for terrain pieces.

Thwomp Dump Castle: CF80-0000-00D6-8F21

Considering how low the clear percentages for my stages are, I'm considering giving some tips to help people out.

Here's a couple levels I built.

Bowser's Bouncy Fort (SMB3 fort): 7F0F-0000-001D-6FD0

Lost Caverns (NSMB cave): 4DD7-0000-001E-5238

These are more straightforward Mario levels built around a few gimmicks instead of pure enemy spam.

Without the unlock system, I wouldn't have tried to make something creative with a limited tileset, so, here you guys go! I'll be spending some time after making this post to play through all yo' levels and following you fools.

Spring into Action: FC07-0000-0026-CEB2

I'll probably change my Mii's name to Dprotp just to be more identifiable.

Giant Land Throwback - B50E-0000-0028-326A

It's 4-1 and 4-4 from SMB3 ... more or less as faithful as I could get. I did add more enemies to 4-4 because it felt empty otherwise.
