Just a few months away from release. Going to be interesting how Disney handles this movie. I'm personally hoping that the fight sequences are better than the prequel trilogy (and therefore, way better than the originals). Just don't abuse the slowdown.

Just got back from watching it. I loved it.

The new characters were great for the most part, the action was excellent and didn't feel unnatural, even if some parts did feel like it was copying a bit too much from the original movies.

I saw it and loved it. I don't want to spoil much but the ending is making me wait with baited breath for VIII.

The 3 new leads are great.

At least there isn't a three year gap between films like there was with the other trilogies. By this time next year, we'll only be ~4 months away from the Episode 8 release. Disney's firing all cylinders to make Star Wars films.

Oh. I didn't even see this thread existed. (hey forum merge. how you doin')

Really liked the movie, it has been a while since I last watched a Star Wars movie, so I didn't remember many things about the previous ones, but enough to understand a few of the references they did. I watched it in 3D too, which was a blast. They really used great atmosphere for the movie, although I've heard people say that the characters felt a little too "meh". Apparently I watched it on one of it's last days on cinemas over here, so that was lucky.

I liked the movie.

So, I heard that all three movies are going to have different directors for whatever reason. Is that a common thing for Star Wars movies (or movies in general)? I never noticed that.

The original trilogy all had different directors: George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, and Richard Marquand respectively. The prequel trilogy, however, was all directed by George Lucas. So, it's somewhat unusual, but it's not without precedent.

Anyway, I enjoyed the movie. It tried too hard to be Episode IV all over again, but it did well in everything it did. At the very least, a trip down nostalgia lane with a handful of welcome new additions is much better than the prequel treatment.

I saw an interesting review of the movie by the Nostalgia Critic that touched on the similarity to the older movies. They suggest that the reason Force Awakens follows the same formula is to regain the trust of the audience members who were put off by the prequels. Now that J.J. Abrams has done that (quite successfully), the next movie can go off in its own direction.

Yeah, I'm definitely hoping that this episode was a 'pedigree' episode and things will be a bit different in the next lot of movies. Having said that, I enjoyed it for what it was.
