_Rhubarb is a life form of a song, Ambient Works II was real cool

IMO, Syro really wasn't his best release even though I really loved it especially because hell, it was new Aphex Twin, but I'm glad he got Grammy recognition through it even if it doesn't "mean much" to most people

posting in this thread to say i listened to saw 85-92 + vol 2 again a few nights ago and it was kinda magical and made me realize i haven't heard nearly enough aphex twin and i really wanna listen to more

All of his albums have very different styles, even between songs on the same album (drukQs is a great example). Heck, even b/w SAW 85-92 and Vol. 2, there's quite a contrast that's hard to notice at first. Anyhow, Aphex leaked a bunch of tracks himself and can be found on YT, plus various fan archives of his uploads. Let me tell you, it's one heck of a journey dating back to 1985 when he was just using a ZX Spectrum and homemade stub PCBs.

It would be interesting to know what would happen if he made an original score for, say, a movie.

I remember seeing the video for Windowlicker once and dang, that was weird. Then again I have a love of really, really weird shit, so...

The only other thing I'm familiar with is "Come to Daddy", only because I remember seeing brief snippets of it when I was a younger Rick on a VH-1 show. I did go back and see the whole video, and I like the song.

I don't really analyze him on a track by track basis, but I grew up liking SAW Vol 1 and the Analord series.

Nowadays I'm more about SAW 1, SAW 2, and Syro, seeing as Syro is closer to his Analog Bubblebath series.
But if I'm being honest, I only listen to him if I feel like I've been listening to Boards of Canada too much.

when i first got into Aphex Twin i actually didn't dig that deep into his discography and only had his LPs + Windowlicker single + Come to Daddy. i also didn't like SAW 2 very much cuz i wasn't very big on songs without percussion

i've been slowly trying to listen to more of his stuff and absorb more of his discography; his Analogue Bubblebath stuff and some of his earlier EPs, which i've been really enjoying so far. i haven't heard Syro yet but the comparison def piques my curiosity. also i've been relistening to SAW 2 more and i've come to find out i really like it

SAW 85-92's still my fav tho

SAW2 is more conventional ambient, so it is a bit harder to get into for the most part. Whereas basically the majority of his 'ambient' material will be ambient techno or ambient house, which have enough structure to be conventionally enjoyed by non-ambient fans. It's a different type of music listening experience, and while I love it, I don't often have an urge to listen to straight up Brian Eno styled ambient or anything. It's more of a mood thing, when the moment is right. But ambient techno? I can listen to it all the time, cause the percussion gives out a constant stream of energy and keeps focus. That's why I'm such a big fan of Boards of Canada too, their work is mostly ambient techno, and they do great at it. SAW 1 is also amazing ambient techno. But now I want to go into a big long rant about the magic of ambient house, I might make a new thread for it. Aside: Every electronic music fan has to listen to KLF - Chill Out at least once.
