It happened just the other day, actually, when I watched Dallas Buyers Club. I totally thought I was going to hate it, especially considering the controversy surrounding Jared Leto, but I actually loved it and thought it was a really gripping, well-made film about AIDS in the 80s. I am usually not a huge fan of Oscar bait films like this, but this one really touched me.

On a more "serious" note, usually any manga falls under this (especially Shinryaku! Ika-Musume, where I like how there are many relatively short comic stories instead of a huge one, although it's been a while since I've last read it (lazyness) and I may get around one day to continue).

Well, I don't know if this counts, but i guess Sonic '06. At the time, the only consoles I had were GBC and Genesis, so I'd always go to my friend's house to play games... I had played a few of the 3D sonic games at his house, and was only a little impressed by what the games had to offer (yeah, I didn't like SA2B that much >.>)... But one of the many days he rented a 360, he also got Sonic '06 and... frankly, we enjoyed it immensely. o.o;



also, er, a certain anime with a certain young-looking main character with green eyes...

Heh, good ol' Sonic '06. Loading times aside, that's not a completely bad game. The story may be wierd, but it's fun...

Pacific Rim. I thought it was going to be boring action crap, and instead I got a beautifully realised little world with adorable characters (minus the Australians… like ughhhhhhhhhh they are so bad and their accents are terrible) and great giant robot punching monsters action. I should have trusted Del Toro… it was in good hands.

I swear Neil Cicierega must be responsible for everything funny on the internet (that wasn't because of Ryan North or Andrew Hussie). He invented animutations? He did Potter Puppet Pals?? He did Windows 95 tips?!??!?

To contribute myself, I would have to say… Vampire: the Eternal Struggle.

In case you've never heard of it (very likely), it's a card game designed by Richard Garfield (of Magic: the Gathering fame) to respond to all the things he thought were Magic's failures. And for some reason it ended up a licensed game in White Wolf's World of Darkness setting?

Anyway it's a four or five player game with a great resource system and lots of politics and I love it a bunch and have like 20 decks built and ready right now and I scraped a database to create the xml files necessary to play it using the free Cockatrice program which is supposed to be for Magic so I could play online with people and aaaaah

But everyone just wants to play Magic, so that's all I ever play

I mean, I'd rather play Sonic '06 than Forces again, so, I guess I'm in the same camp? Bugs and loading times aside, it's not a terrible game.

Music goes this way for me, I'll get recommended a band, initially hate it, then "rediscover" them years later and fall in love. Case in point: Tame Impala. I wasn't into the whole psychedelic rock thing.... until I was?

Tame Impala has been similar to me, except on a shorter timeframe. Sometime last year a friend sent a link of one of their songs and I thought it was boring. Now I have three albums.

I seem to have this with music more often. I didn't think I'd be one for metal either until last year, but I remember similar feelings with stuff like Aqualung and a bunch I've forgotten by now.

Expected edgy mid-2000s scene kid nonsense but Season 1 is super good
Haven't watched enough of Season 2 but from what I've heard, it's where shit starts to hit the fan between Jhonen and crew going batshit with SFX and Nick sabotaging the show with budget cuts and absurd censorship
Need to read more of the comics...

Also, Final Fantasy VIII and Kingdom Hearts (Riku and Aqua are my fursonas, Luxord is my husband)

same, except it's pretty recent for me and me getting into them was a more gradual process. i don't like and have never really liked any other industrial bands, really, and nine inch nails are like... at the very tippy top end of the most loud/intense/aggressive music i've ever liked (maybe only topped by early Medicine, but even then they aren't quite as aggro).

later on i learned to kinda sorta like The Slip in maybe around 2010, but none of their other stuff clicked with me really and i didn't really get why so many people were super into them. but recently, in like December or so, my girlfriend who's really into NIN played me a song (i don't remember which) and it made me REALLY curious about listening to more, so i listened to The Downward Spiral again and kind of fell in love, then i listened to Pretty Hate Machine again and maybe loved that more, and then i listened to With Teeth and goddammit i guess i really like Nine Inch Nails now. i have still yet to hear The Fragile, Hesitation Marks, or Year Zero...

something of my own (speaking of stuff my gf got me into ) is that i was really skeptical about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. honestly, i kind of just thought that outside of Nolan's Batman stuff superhero movies wouldn't appeal to me at all -- i kinda just dismissed them out of hand as shallow without ever really watching them. but Eryn who's really into Marvel made me watch Iron Man and while it wasn't exactly the deepest thing ever i genuinely had a lot of fun with it and really wanted to watch more. i've seen all the MCU movies now and while they're not all amazing there's a few that are genuinely really fun/cool/great and i think overall the experience taught me that just liking movies because they're fun is okay sometimes
