I've read all of the Deltora series, most of the Redwall series, all of the Harry Potter series (including Fantastic Beasts & that one Quidditch book), almost all of the first 100 Choose Your Own Adventure books, and of the Chronicles of Narnia (The Horse and his Boy is my favorite of them~), A Series of Unfortunate Events, most of the Artemis Fowl books, Eragon and Eldest, all of the Bionicle Chronicles and Adventures books (still really want to get the Legends books >.>) a handful of Stephen King novels, most of the old Tom Swift books, a lot of the original Boxcar Kids books... Currently reading through the Wheel of Time series, on book nine so far :3

Uhm, do light novels count? If so, Welcome to the NHK and the first Haruhi Suzumiya book (Melancholy, I think). Would also like to read the Log Horizon novels, but there's no official translated release for those.

Besides those... I'm not that much of a book reader, either, so... whatever books we read back in school years ago? There's been two or so, not that I remember what they were.

Also, "slightly" unrelated, I pretty much finished reading THIS. Too bad it was cancelled though.

Anyway, the real reason was I've recently considered to read some Harry Potter books. While I've seen all the movies out there, I didn't read much of the books (shoot me If you want).

I gotta be honest, I have the attention span of a gnat when reading books. I don't know what it is but my mind just wanders off if all I am doing is looking at nothing but words. As such, I'm not much of a book reader. Whenever I have read a book, it was for school. Besides the titles of some of the books I read for school, I can't really remember the details of those books since it has been so long.

I guess the only book that I can think of worth mentioning here that I have read was A Thousand Splendid Suns. It has been 5 years since I read it so the details in my mind are fuzzy. From what I do remember, it was a sad but good book.

Now I could talk about manga or visual novels but I'll spare people. Also, I'm not really sure if everyone would strictly classify those as books.

I used to read books all the time, but now I just don't seem to want to. If I do, I'll get in to it and never put it down, but it's actually getting in to it that's the problem. Terry Pratchett, Dan Brown and Sue Grafton are amongst my favourites.

A friend of mine gave me the Collector's Edition of Terry Pratchett's Raising Steam, so that's one to read!

That's also one of the major problems I have when reading books.

And no, trying to imagine it as a movie where I'm reading the script doesn't work - I've already tried. If, and only if the book is interesting enough to read I'l have some will to do so. *cough* school books *cough*

Or you could watch the movie based off of the book instead of imagining it (assuming that it exists).

For me personally, I'd rather read a visual novel rather than just a book. With a VN, at least there are images (hence visual novel) to look at to help get a context of what is going on rather than just reading what is going on. There have been so many times when I'm reading a book, I'll read a few pages, then wonder what I just read. Background music in a VN can also help set the mood which further helps to understand what's going on. Because of these, it is a lot easier to follow the story and I have a much longer attention span.

Again, this is just my personal preference. At the end of the day, whether a book or VN is enjoyable or not depends on how well it's story was written (which is, for the most part, subjective from person to person). It doesn't matter how many bells and whistles you have, a poorly written story is just that, poorly written.

Heh, there are relative values - I only "accept" stories that are either awesome, funny, talking about something which interests me, or that they're so poorly written and full of inconsistency they're funny.

I typically try to think of the music myself, but that can distract from reading a book.

Also, I agree with you on the VN topic.

I'm stuck in the Dragonlance universe right now. I've finished the Chronicles and right now I'm on the last book of the Legends series with Test of the Twins.

So far, War of the Twins is my favorite in the series.

I am not a big reader. But I read the maximum ride series, and some other sci fi stuff. I like that type of book the most.

I'm currently reading Shark Wars, a series of books by EJ Altbacker, and man they are awesome! They feature sharks that are all divided into different clans called "shivers", with the main character being a megalodon named Gray, and his best friend is a dogfish named Barkley. He also has a master named Takiza, a Siamese Fighting Fish with very special powers. They and their friends are practically the peacemakers of the oceans, and always try to stop evil sharks and other marine life from causing disturbances in the Big Blue. I hope someone decides to try at making a movie based on them, because it would definitely be epic.

I'm not reading anything particular at the moment but I have got Banshee's Last Cry on my reading list. If you want to be technical, its a VN but who cares. Reading is reading. I found out about it after learning the news that the development of Zero Escape 3 is currently in limbo. Its depressing news because I loved the first two VN in that series. Anyway though, I guess the reason I want to read Banshee's Last Cry is because the settings and atmosphere in the synopsis make it sound like a dark mystery (kind of like Zero Escape...). I love that type of stuff. I plan to get into it when I get some down time. That, unfortunately, won't be for awhile since I am about to have a boat load of work drop on me.

I've been an avid fan of Redwall for years (since 2000/2001, I think?) and have read all the books at least once except Rouge Crew, Loamhedge, Doomwyte, and Sable Quean.

Right now though I've been going through For Dummies books and Cracked's Detextbook.

Considering my bad attention span and the fact I don't really like reading, it's surprising I finished it in one sitting (Total time: 2 hours or so).

Hmm... I think The Giver was a book I "read" for school (I use "read" loosely here). I think I had to read it as an "outside" reading book. I can say that I never actually read the book and just used sparknotes to bullshit an essay together. That's how I was when I was in middle school and early high school. I can't honestly judge the book since I never really read it and whatever I read from sparknotes has long since left me. I say that I have at least some regret now for not reading it back then.

Its funny because every time I look at this thread I always remember one book from school that I read but I completely forgotten about. This time the book I remembered about was The Road. I read it as a senior in HS. The story is definitely fuzzy in my mind since it has been years since I read it. No spoilers but just to give an idea of the settings, it takes place in a post apocalyptic world with a father and son just trying to live through to the next day. Its a dark book and it can get gruesome at times. If that isn't your thing then avoid it like the plague. From what I remember though, it was a good book and it even got a movie.

Oh, and since we are on the topic of reading, I might as well include this here as well. 999 finally got released for iOS devices in English as a pure VN. I already bought the DS version and now this. Yeah call me crazy but I just love this series so much I had to rebuy it. I guess I'm in a minority though .

Actually, this was supposed to be a book for school (I had to choose one without any restrictions), but it was good enough to make me interested in that book.

I recently finished 'Divergent' a few months ago (you know, because, who hasn't?). At one point, I read and finished 'Things Hoped For'. I've also read a bunch of Jerry Spinelli (especially 'Eggs' and 'Smiles to Go') and have read the In Utero 33 1/3 before.
