long ago crown dungeon from oracle of ages was mentioned, and it still rings terribly, but for that i take multiple judgements. the instrumentation is a poor use of a square wave but that in itself is not something i'd call bad, but the loud, grainy ringing texture does not combine well at all with a somplistic, slow paced melody
yet the worse aspect is the melody itself, trying to go for a discordant experimental track, but it's so slow and has so so little going on it fails at it and becomes quickly uninteresting, and that played through a car horn is just a pretty bad combination altogether

i feel i dislike in general boring subversions at the concept of melodies primarily, my approach to music is highly melodic do when something doesn't have something like that it's already an unusual take to me, for it to flop badly with something really basic and loud

I listened to Crown Dungeon and identified three primary problems, all of them possibly intentional. The instrumentation if the obvious one, the primary melody has no envelopes, creating a constant, stiff tone. This is something the entire Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (GBC) soundtrack does also, but there I think it holds under scrutiny as atmospheric and resembling medieval instruments, in e.g. Hallway.

The second issue is time signature is also irregular, and that's something Minako Adachi liked to experiment with, and handled much better in Matsukiyo's Lab.

Finally, the melody is just plain dysharmonic at times. That's probably my biggest problem with the piece, so I agree with your assessment.

and see, my comparisons come also within the rest of oracle of ages' soundtrack as well, which (for the most part) i really really like.

the first one actually can be addressed best in Skull Dungeon, although it's observed through the entire soundtrack, they definitely were going for a medieval simple instruments feel with it, and some of the songs definitely make it work either making good very focused melodies that work with it or intensely atmospheric tracks. Skull Dungeon is an example of the former.

every single element on their own can work, and i feel the soundtrack has good examples of each of them, mermaid's cave and ancient tomb also stand out to me as being good having very different qualities and focus.

but this one just kind of, an unfocused, unemotive mess, of perhaps too many things being attempted at once.

(also wow i had no idea the oracle games and telefang shared composer)

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
