For a Linux user, Windows is only useful for playing games but dual-booting or even using two different OS installations at the same time feels so clunky . For me it is just better to go without playing any games.

Having barely any experience with Microsoft Office, LibreOffice feels good enough for me.

Started off with Windows 2000 SP4, back in probably 2006 or so. Upgraded to XP in '08, but tried to make it as 2000-like as possible. Then in 2010, I had 7 for a few months before I got some bad viruses and Dad, getting sick of me getting viruses from downloading off doperoms, put Mandriva 2010 on that computer instead. I enjoyed using it a lot, and it's why I still prefer MATE to this day. There was also a laptop I had that I played around with VMs on. 95, 3.1, DOS. All three I played around with a lot.

That computer died and the laptop wasn't really good enough so I ended up getting a hand-me-down real laptop, though it wasn't very good, it was a Lenovo G555 that ended up literally melting on me and dying. To this day I still really don't trust Lenovo products. It had Windows 7 at first, and then Ubuntu 9.04 just for fun, and then back to W7.

But yeah, it died in 2014, so I got another laptop for my 15th birthday and just had to make do with the netbook until then. The new laptop had Windows 8.1 that my dad pre-installed Classic Shell on, which is probably why I don't hate 8.x like the rest of the Internet did. I ended up installing Vista on it to try it out, and realized I actually like Vista now that hardware caught up to it.

When that laptop started getting too many problems to keep going (the keyboard half broke and the touchpad just didn't work at all), I ended up getting another desktop, which is my main computer when I'm not moving. It used to have Windows 7 on it, I wiped it and installed Slackware for a while, but that ended up getting replaced later on. I had ReactOS 0.4.13 installed on hard drive #3, but it refused to boot, so I ended up just wiping that drive and using it for storage instead.

On my current laptop, I used to have NT 3.51 installed on a 6 GB partition alongside 2000 SP4, and I really liked it, but the partition got corrupted so I had to reformat. Actually, the whole disk corrupted for some reason, so I just had to start over. First with Whistler 2419 but that didn't work, so then XP and Bionicpup, but eventually I got kinda bored with XP and wanted an OS that could run the internet that wasn't the apparently slow and bloated Puppy. It's still technically installed but I'm just verifying I backed up my home folder away from formatting the partition and using it for storage, or alternatively a new XP install. I'm also wanting to get 3.51 installed again.

Words words words. All of that is still true, but Panther, Mac OS 9.2.1, and temporarily Haiku are all on the list too. I have a Haiku VM that has Beta 3 installed, but that PC is stored away and I don't have any x86/64 machines available on hand. Still have the Inspiron and will upgrade that to B3 when I can.

the first computer i used ran Mac OS 10.3 or 10.4, something around there. my first personal computer (a silly little Eee PC from 2009ish) ran Windows XP, which my dad boldly replaced with Ubuntu one day. later devices used Vista, then 7, then 8, then 10.

there was a bit of Apple sprinkled in here and there, as there was a Mac mini in the house

Earliest I would've tackled was DOS 3.3 and Windows 286/2.x on a Packard Bell 286. This was later changed to 5.0 and 3.0 respectively and allowed full use of the 40MB hard drive I had in the unit (DOS 3's limitation was 32MB partitions, at the time).

As a kid, I was really into trying OSes in VMs. One of my most vivid memories is playing around with 2.03 in like 2010. And then 3.1 sometime after that... I most liked playing with Windows 95 on my Acer Aspire One netbook, though. I don't remember if I ever got it to display the correct 1024x600 resolution, but I might have.

i was always trying to install virtual machines on my polycarbonate macbook when i was a kid. i didn't know i needed an ISO so I was just fucking around with the virtualbox settings all day trying to get it to work

that was the same computer i deleted all the OS files from when i was bored (and still a kid) and then i grounded myself from using computers for like a year

That's kinda cute, and pretty funny. I imagine that the grounding happened pretty much simultaneously with you deleting your system32, not much you can do with it after that.
I take it you eventually figured out how to do VMs.

of course!

and yeah, it basically was the Mac equivalent of system32. i found the folder that Finder was in and decided to blow it the fuck up. it was awesome (i got a flashing folder and became petrified of touching the computer ever again)

that bitch was full of softonic garbage and toolbars though, so i didn't lose much

If anything, you probably gained by nuking that install, it sounds like.

mhm. i burned through quite a few piece of shit computers in my childhood, until i eventually got a PC tower that lasted me for quite a while. it had an i7-3770 in it, i think. in an odd rotation of trades with my friend, that computer eventually became his dad's

i used to keep track of all the computers that i had, but now i've completely lost track. there's been so much circulation of machines that have been given, borrowed, sold, destroyed, traded...

Nice. I've only had a few and they've all been 10 years out of date except for the last one which is only 7 years out of date, but I couldn't quite tell you either.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
