WIPOriginally posted by Wintendows98 Like I said, Vista itself hasn't managed to offend me yet. Not on that computer, anyways. I prefer Luna, or Royale, even. Classic is neat, though I forgot to mention, I didn't ditch 2000... So, my parents used to un-plug the power supply to keep me from staying up late or whatever. Well, I found this out before not knowing much about this stuff. So, I had a CN Game Creator game freeze the computer on me. I first used Ctrl + Alt + Delete, but ofc, I didn't know about task manager, either. Or holding the power button... so... you can guess what I did? Yeah, either corrupted the hard drive or fried the CPU, not sure which. I still have the hard drive, but have yet to attempt copying its contents, cuz I am a victim of circumstance and life screws me out of any shot at it. (actually, I still have the whole computer, disassembled completely) I don't have a problem with 2000 at all. Mine just died... |

i think i've finally settled into a stable OS setup, maybe OSes i've played around with in VMs or dual boots but never used as my main: Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, Red Hat/Fedora Linux, Mandrake/Mandriva Linux, FreeBSD, Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu, Arch Linux, Mac OS... 9?, Mac OS X oh, and Android on my phone *the only reason my family even upgraded to Windows 98 was so we could play Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. what a mistake that was ____________________ twitter 💫 mastodon |

| Windows 3.1, 95, 98, XP, Vista, 7, 8/8.1 and 10 were some of the OSes I used in my lifetime. Want to try more OSes one day, but I'm afraid of it being a bit complicated. |

Counting only the OSs that were installed on my computer:
- Windows XP SP3 (2010-2014) - Windows 7 SP1 (2014-present) - Debian w/ KDE (dual-boot for a brief time in 2015 before it destroyed itself )And that's it. I have actually used 95/98/ME while I was younger though, because the computer we had at home wasn't good enough to run more recent OSs (it was an early-ish COMPAQ one). I know for sure that by 2008 we were still using 98, but afterwards I only remember XP. ____________________ "The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear." --Ram Dass

| Before trying to read this thread. Uhmm.... my current OSes. My PC use is limited to only the last say... 10 years. Before that, using a PC is something that used to happen very rarely because. .... boarding high school. So, well, my past OSes are, Window XP, Windows 7 and now we come to the most interesting parts here which is, probably all Linux distros have been checked out by me. Having a lot of experience with Linux is not a cool has probably having a lot of experience with OS X but *still*. Clap for me :-D |

Only counting computers that I personally owned.
Windows XP SP2 (2005 - 2010) (computer had no internet connection) Windows 7 (2010 - 2015) Windows 10 (2015 - 2016) (until I got fed up with it) OpenSUSE Tumbleweed (2016 - 2018) (ran this until it became so unstable that I couldn't log in anymore) Windows 10 (2018 - Present) (it's actually quite pleasant now?) I'm somewhat interested in switching back to Linux, but I don't have the hard disk space for it at the moment. ____________________ |

Possibly they don't have a backup drive for their files and have used a lot of storage ![]() |

I have a (rather old) 1 TB backup drive, but my laptop's SSD is only 128GB. And I don't really need to run any Windows-specific programs, apart from a few games maybe. So I guess technically speaking nothing's stopping me. But at the same time my laptop works very well right now and I don't feel like possibly breaking it, especially when I need it for my internship right now.
The biggest reasons I'd want to go back to Linux would be more customization options (because I'm getting a little tired of the Windows 10 look), a better programming environment, and KDE Connect, which is so freaking nice. ____________________ |

| Currently my computing needs are limited to surfing, watching movies/TV series, reading, and programming. My 5+ year old desktop PC is good enough for this. My mind has not yet come to solid decision on whether moving to OS X in the future would be a good idea. OS X and Apple products are generally expensive but it looks to me that these could give you all that you could get from your *nix computer and while offering you more. Well, yeah, my mind has not decided whether to move to OS X in the future or to just stick to Linux. But, well, in the future would probably be several years to come. |

As an update to my previous post:
- Windows XP SP3 (2010-2014) - Windows 7 SP1 (2014-2019) - Debian Linux w/ KDE (dual-boot with W7 for a brief time in 2015 before it destroyed itself )- Windows 10 (2019-present) - Linux Mint w/ Cinnamon (2019-present) Been using mostly Mint for a while now, but sometimes I boot up Windows 10 to play a specific game that only works there or to use Microsoft Office (LibreOffice works but it feels so clunky compared to MS Office). ____________________ "The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear." --Ram Dass
