| Yeah, I had no intention of adding it as unused as it doesn't even belong to the game in question, and is more of a hard drive "feature" when not properly zeroed out after a format. It was more of a complaint about Atari's arcade division, and was more of a view into what I've noticed about their arcade games lately. Unfortunately though, it does add to confusion when looking for unused content in any of their arcade games :/. |

| Is it possible to make a program like this for ripping sound from chd images. It's possible to rip music from games like Gauntlet Dark Legacy, but only after decompressing the image and importing it into audacity (the music is uncompressed pcm) then sifting through lots of static until there is audible sound. There is actually an unused track in Dark Legacy and a couple in California Speed. |

Post it. It's something the devs left in the game that wasn't used even if it was never intended to be used.
A lot of things that weren't used in games was never intended to be used. Like all of those Rare games built off older Rare games. Diddy Kong was never intended to be in a mickey game, for example. |

This isn't really the same thing at all. This is junk data from whatever game was previously stored on the hard drive, not leftover assets that were actually built into the game (and may have been used for testing at some point). It doesn't prove that Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey was built off of War Gods or anything like that.
I agree with ICEknight et al. that these were probably just recycled hard drives that had new games written to them; if this is the case, then the data doesn't need to be added to the wiki. However, until someone with an original drive can dump it and compare it with the image currently in the MAME set, there's no way to know for sure.

I've been dumping various arcade game memory to bin files using mame and examining them with The Peeper for unused content. Below I have a few shots of hidden menus within some of the games. Let me know if any of these have been discovered elsewhere and I'll remove them from this list. Anyone interested in taking a crack at them can go right ahead (I'll be working on them as well):
Battle Circuit
Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness
Giga Wing
Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters
Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter
Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge
Power Instinct
Power Instinct 2
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix
X-Men Vs. Street Fighter
Zombie Raid
You may be wondering why Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors' Dreams is not in the list. That's because I've already unlocked a disabled TEST MENU and active CHARACTER TEST here. I've just been too lazy to create the game page (hate making new pages...).

| But isn't that something you can already see by pressing F2 to enter the test menu found on pretty much every Arcade game? |

No, these were developer menus meant for internal testing. Compare:

zakria,
If you had read my response on Pugsy's Mame Cheats, you would have seen that I've already tried. I have no problem finding the text, but I have a feeling it is just left over text from a previously implemented debug menu that was removed on release of the game. Your more than welcome to try and find the debug flag for yourself (if it even exists) by changing blocks of 00 byte codes to 01 in the memory editor to see if anything appears on the screen during play. I may look into this game a bit more later when I have more time to devote.

| Nice find on the Street Fighter Alpha menus! I know Super Street Fighter II Turbo has some text for menus like the ones that have been documented for the CPS1 versions of Street Fighter II, but I've never had any luck getting into the actual menus, if they still exist. |

Thanks. I also looked for that menu, but I believe it has been removed (tried all different ways of accessing it, but found only the final menu).
I recently hacked a developer menu in Mega Twins (World 900619), yet another Capcom game. I will be adding this to the current page when I get some free time (Unless someone else wants to document it and add it to the page)... My cheat can be found here.

So I've recently made a music/sound modifier for MK2 Arcade, and have found some things I believe to be unused. I am wondering if anyone can give these a look over to assure me they are unused (some are kinda hard to tell, while others are very obviously unused). I have included a few of them in this zip (there are plenty more in the cheat though):
MK2_ARC_Sounds.zip (.ogg format)
My MAME cheat for access to the sounds can be found here (this includes everything I've found in the game excluding normal attacks of characters and random attack noises).
If someone can check these out it would be appreciated. As soon as they are verified unused (the ones that aren't obvious) I'll add them to the page. |

Male Kiss is definitely unused.
Muffled laugh is used in MK 4 (PSX) when you wait on the options screen, without the "ultras" bit, which is probably a take that to "Killer Instinct".
Female Strain is unused, was probably intended for the Kiss Of Death fatality.
Kitana Kiss is definitely used in 1.4 (the earliest known revision to have her fatality) unless there is more than one kiss sound.....
Male attacks all sound unused, or are carry overs from MK1.
Male Taking Damage is unused.
Both Male "yea" sounds are unused, although the longer one sounds like a placeholder for Kintaro or Kahn.

The one included in that zip is the second variation of "Kitana Kiss" I found (sounded unused due to the first variation sounding like the final). Not sure if your familiar with MAME or how to setup cheats within it, but if you can, check out the cheat to access the sounds here.
If you are unable to use the cheats or setup MAME, I'll try and get a clip of the first "Kitana Kiss" to compare to.
Also, if your interested in taking a look at the rest of the sounds (if you can get it all running in MAME), it would be appreciated.
*********EDIT*********
I have have included both Kitana Kiss sounds in this zip:
MK2_ARC_Kitana_Kiss.zip
The first (MK2_ARC_Kitana_Kiss_1) is what I'm used to hearing in the game, and the second (MK2_ARC_Kitana_Kiss_2) is the one originally included in the previous zip file.
As for the Male Kiss sound, I'm guessing that was going to be used for Johnny Cage's win pose (he puts on his glasses, does a kiss with both hands, and then crosses his arms).
Also, the Muffled Laugh one sounds like he is saying "Pelgers" instead of "Ultras", though he could be saying anything...

Then yeah, the second kitana kiss is unused, possibly intended for mileena?
The Male kiss does indeed sound like Cage, now you've mentioned it.
muffled laugh is definitely "ultras" IMO. |

I decided to mess with this a bit and came up with this: http://youtu.be/njHMXpLA6Dw |
