Exactly what I'm thinking what happens. There's a reason China's being asking for a de-Americanized global market. Here's some sort-of-good-ish news posted an hour ago as of this post

Frankly, if the GOP isn't going to budge until Thursday, Democrats should just take the deal regardless. Not that I really want them to, but the needs of the many greatly outweigh the needs of the few (world, our country, respectively). If they don't it's lose-lose, but at least we could try to negotiate shit afterwards.

Not to mention that the GOP's image is pretty much fucking ruined anyway.

This could be the likely outcome if the GOP continues to be a giant collection of butts. At the same time, though, the "don't negotiate with terrorists" kind of attitude of the Democrats while them also increasing their demands could lead to them refusing even a somewhat reasonable deal out of pride.

If this global catastrophe does come to pass, I'd like to see nothing less than the entire Republican party held responsible for willingly causing it, if not their complete disbandment and/or a restructuring of the government altogether.

Correction: The phrases "apocalypse" and "armageddon" come to mind...

There's a reason China's being asking for a de-Americanized global market.

Not only that, but I heard on the news (dont remember the source) that China is demanding the debt we owe to them paid, or we essentially get bought out as the United States of China...

I better start learning Chinese...

Hahaha, nope. Less than ten percent of the US's total debt is owned by China.

I hope "the source" wasn't Paul Ryan or one of the other notoriously idiotic people who like to prop up that myth for some reason.

Not only that, Tamkis, but the idea of a superpower being bought out by another country brings about many, many problems. China doesn't even have the money to buy us out. According to the World Bank, China's real GDP is about $4.52 trillion, while the US has roughly $13.52 trillion. It's gonna take a lot more money for that to even be plausible.

This isn't even how international debt works, at all.

The Senate passed a bill and the House has said they will pass it. I guess crisis averted for now, unless the Tea Party suddenly goes explodes and wrecks it all.

How many people here think that part of the reason was the public rapidly gaining knowledge of the GOP House changing shutdown rules at the last possible moment at the end of last month?

So, Obama signed the bill, Republicans were dissenters, the clouds clear.

Now it's really over, at least technically. We'll have to see if everything goes right without breaking horribly.

Over? Hardly, they still have to establish a budget before middle of January. It's pretty much only a delay of the problem.
