Android for me. I've had an iPhone in the past and pretty much hated it the entire time. Happily, I was able to get an HTC Desire on contract. Unfortunately, that had a minute internal memory, so updates could rarely download. Recently, I upgraded to the LG Optimus L5 II, which has a significantly larger internal memory, but LG has blocked the ability to download apps to the SD card. As of late, I tend to just stick to play Scrambled Net, so that's not such a big deal.

As for Windows phones, I'm just not interested. I could easily live on a dumb phone; I mainly just use mine for texting anyway, and the occasional quick Google.

My first smartphone was a BlackBerry Curve 8330. It was a great, robust, durable, but aged phone. It got to the point where it was being surpassed by other technology, and it was becoming an inconvenience. I switched to the Droid Pro. It had a physical keyboard similar to my Curve's. The stock OS on that phone was its main hindrance. I threw a build of CyanogenMod on it, and it was infinitely better. Still not the best, but more that usable. I'm currently using a BlackBerry Z10, and I have to say that I'm loving it so far. It still has the qualms of a new OS (lack of apps and a few trivial features), but it's getting significantly better extremely quickly. I can always sideload an Android app that hasn't been ported or natively developed for BB yet. And I'm currently installing the latest leaked build to get one of the most sought after features: multiple alarms. Everything is so fluid, pretty, and it just works.

I've had dumbphones, an Android, and now a Windows phone. I voted for Android because I really dislike my Windows 8 phone ... I mean, it gets the job done, but the interface is ugly, Bing Maps sucks (no public transit directions!), there are very few official apps for important services (Google Maps!!), and a Chinese studying app that is extremely important to me is only available for iOS and Android.

Thank goodness I have a Nexus 7!

I use an android phone (Atrix 4g) for emails, on-the-go web browsing, etc. I use my Tablet (Galaxy Tab 8.9, running android 4 via custom ROM) for music (CIFS to my desktop), browsing at night, and for google drive.

I use a pair of Windows PCs for the bulk of the stuff I do online, as well as web dev, gaming, communications, etc.

Don't get me wrong here: I don't hate iOS. I just find that iOS devices are horribly lacking in a few key things that would get me to stick with them.

Syncing with iTunes can be a pain. I refuse to run it on Windows, which requires me to keep an OS X machine of some sort going. I have no problem with OS X (honestly, it's my favorite OS), but circumstances have basically shoved me firmly onto Windows and I'd much rather not have to wrestle with things.

No external storage. This sours the iPod touch, iPhone, iPad, the Nexus line of Android devices, and many more. Would it fucking kill you to add a MicroSD slot? Oh, wait, then you couldn't gouge people on storage.

The reason my iPod has been replaced is because I ended up using it for different things than I initially intended to, and the 6.9GB provided became inadequate. Galaxy Player, on the other hand? Sure, same internal storage... but shove a 32 or 64GB card in and you're good. And they're swappable. Keep all your music on one card, and shove some other media or things you'd like on the other card. Granted, I've got a larger music library than most, I'd imagine, but this is still a massive plus to me.

The iPod gets some use, but mainly as a portable dictionary/iMessage/Mactracker device. I hardly do anything else with it.

Android... well, you don't have to root or jailbreak it to make it truly useful, either. The selection of apps, I find, is also much wider. Sure, you don't get some company apps like you do on iOS sometimes... but honestly, I don't find this too much of a deal-breaker. I'm not going to be heartbroken if I can't get a store's application on Android. I've done fine without it, and I have an iOS device anyway if I HAVE to have it. (But neither are phones, so let's assume this deal is broken anyway!)

I also find Android apps are much more reliable, update-wise. You're not going to get left in the dust because the developer fucks something up. (I have bought one iOS application, and it was abandoned. Soured me enormously on it. I've debated buying other apps, but honestly, the thought of them being abandoned and no longer working if I upgrade iOS is enough to drive me away.)

Granted, that last one comes with the fact that iOS tends to get way more updates and better support (no "lol we're not bothering with your device" which has become depressingly common on Android), but... community support kind of negates this, in a way. Not to mention the performance drop from me updating to iOS 5 has me swearing off future updates unless utterly necessary... whereas Jelly Bean felt pretty decent on my Player. (No camera forces me to stick to Gingerbread, but eh.)

Wow, this is long-winded. Again, though, I don't hate iOS, and it's a good OS, I just find it falls very short in plenty of places and kind of pushes me over to Android. If I were to get a phone, I honestly can't decide if I'd get an S III/IV or an iPhone, however. Support for one of these things would kind of be a big deal. But I'm just so much more comfortable with Android at this point that it may just not matter, as long as I don't get a super cheap phone.

There's not even a comparison when it comes to tablets, though. I'd absolutely use an iPad if I won one or got one super cheap, obviously, but Android just feels so much more suited for it to me.

I used to use a dumb LG KP500 phone and a Dell Axim X50 PDA for, well, PDA stuff until early this year. Bit the bullet and replaced the aging LG with a, since rooted, Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 running Android 2.3.6.

Can't speak for iOS or Windows Phone, but this thing is miles better than my old phone and PDA. Well, duh, I guess. I do miss their battery runtime on the Ace 2 - turning WLAN off helps - but everything else is just far more modern, better supported, etc. Browsing the web works well (with some limitations), music and video playback - either stored locally on the phone or SD, or ex. watching YouTube videos - is fine as well, I can tweet stuff, there's a nice app for public transport here (called Öffi; find nearby bus stops, get schedules, etc), streaming radio via TuneIn Radio is great, and so on.

I did somehow manage to install too much crap, or mess up the settings or something, tho, as it's been painfully slow at times recently, so I'm thinking of 1) backing up important apps and settings and 2) installing a custom ROM of sorts. Still need to read up on how to do that and what ROMs there are... It's rooted, got the CWM Recovery thingy on, haven't messed with this much further, tho.

I kinda use or have used every Mobile OS in one shape or another. I started with a first gen iPhone so I kinda just stuck with that. I don't use my smart phone for everything that I need.. it's my "in case of" and communications tool. Does the job. (I'm currently testing iOS 7 thanks to a friend of mine who is an Apple Dev.. so I am still very much the experimenting type )

I used a Palm Centro for awhile, it's pretty much the perfect smartphone for people who want a smartphone but can't get a data plan for whatever reason... but Palm is dead and Palm OS is even deader, so on to the newest!

Which for me is an iPhone 4; personally my favorite mobile OS right now is Windows Phone (it just needs an Instagram app really ) but at the time I got this phone it was free on contract, and what other free on contract phone is going to be supported by the manufacturer for very long? If I bought a WP at that level and that time it'd probably have been a dead-end WP7 device.

Dumb phone.

All I need a phone for is emergencies and a portable clock, and I don't like how many smartphones try to lock you into specific services and providers. Further, I wouldn't really get much use out of the extra functionality.

Honestly, I wouldn't even have this if my parents hadn't insisted on paying for it.

I've got a Kyocera Hydro myself, with Android Ice Cream Sandwich. It started out pretty great, especially for being a 99 dollar Christmas present with no contract, which means I can use it mostly as I expected to use it, like a mini tablet using Wifi to access sites and take pictures with flash and listen to music in bed and chat while away from the PC.

However, I think I might be causing it to keel over some already with how much stuff I've loaded on to it. I swear it felt faster before, now I've got quite a few apps that refuse to move onto the SD card taking up space, quite a few that take up bits of memory or CPU in the background, programs that refuse to make said apps stop when not running like they should, things like Google Drive that slowly cause the phone to lag to death forcing a restart, and a constant nagging to update that might take away my root or brick it due to said root!

It's hard to tell how much is the phone being lower end, how much is due to it being ICS put on something more suited for an earlier version or if it's due to my loading it with too much... it's hard to think of what I can even delete!

Still, it's held up pretty great, considering, and my next Smart Phone, which will probably be some higher one I buy with my own funds in a few years when they're cheaper, will still probably be an Android.

I also had a Curve 8330 on Sprint for a long while. It wasn't until a few months after the iPhone 4 came out that I finally decided to get a new phone. Since then, I've stuck with Apple and iOS. Upgraded from the 4 to the 5 when it released. I follow both Android and iOS but I mostly prefer iOS still. Android has more features and extra customization options but I can live without those for the added stability and app quality of the iOS environment. Android has really come a long way since I first made the choice to go with iOS but there isn't anything compelling me to switch this late in the game. I have my iPhone and an iPad 3, my wife's iPhone and iPad Mini and she has an iMac. I still prefer Windows and custom built PCs for my desktop machines but that new Mac Pro is tempting, though I wouldn't be able to afford it for a long while.
