No Answer - They Might Be Giants

Utterly beautiful song, and kind of a tearjerker. It's never been officially released outside of the long-defunct Dial-A-Song service (despite it being pretty popular among fans), and there seems to be some confusion as to why--there's a rumor (mentioned in the link) that Linnell stated, when asked, that it will never be released, and apparently he got a bit defensive about the subject when saying so. It's a pretty dark song--the last verse is (IMO) pretty transparently about a couple planning for a child and then suffering a miscarriage--but it's utterly gorgeous nonetheless.

There are two versions, differing very slightly in instrumentation and pacing--this one and this one. I personally have a very slight preference for the latter, but the former admittedly is a bit clearer vocally (I think).

Sorry for the rambling, I just really love TMBG...

Mesmonium - Automation from Harmony of a Hunter 101% Run.

I guess this pretty much completes my Metroid Prime 2 kick. Sanctuary Fortress is in competition with Torvus Bog for best area in the game and they both have great music, but Automation puts Sanctuary Fortress just in front.

Sonic CD Boss theme (JAP)

It's pure awesome and if you think about it, it becomes a goofy theme in a boss battle.

This alone almost makes me want to do a playthrough of Sonic CD.
It helps that's been a while since the last time I played it.

Drexciya - Davey Jones Locker (song begins at 0:58)

Drexciya is such good electro. Once I get my turntable set up again I want to try to get the Journey of the Deep Sea Dweller compilations on vinyl.

I'm listening to some game tracks from Cthulhu Saves the World. I really like the style and feel of the RPG.

Todd Edwards - Get Carried Away (1992)

The B-side to Todd Edwards' first single ever. It's quite a bit different for the cut-up sampling he'd become known for a couple of years later but I think this is one of my favorite 90s house tracks ever.

Unpopular opinion: I don't actually care much for Nirvana. I like a couple of their songs, but on the whole I found them underwhelming. Though in fairness, I've only heard Nevermind, so maybe I'd prefer their other work?

ANYWAY.

Mr. Brightside - The Killers

Great song. I've been on a bit of a Killers kick lately, and this is the first song I heard by them (in, like, 6th grade).

Fun fact: When I first played Hot Fuss for my dad, he asked me, "Are these guys from the '80s?" I can kinda see why he asked, honestly. (Unpopular opinion #2: I actually quite like a lot of stuff from the '80s. I guess I should be banned from having opinions on music, eh? )

Doctor's Cat - Feel the Drive (House Drive Mix) (1983/1987)

Made in Italy, remixed in Holland. A nice slice of classic italo disco brought to the early house music scene.

Brain - D.I.X.O. (1982)

An obscure italo disco cut from France with lots of funky guitar and vocoder. Found this one by chance on Youtube the other day and have been wearing it out a bit since then.

I'm chilling to some vintage Japanese bossa nova while it rains outside. Pretty groovy atmosphere I've got going. I'm thinking of curating a collection of vintage Japanese bossa nova vinyls and listen to them on rainy days (read: all winter) while reading the latest McSweeney's release.

I'm currently listening to some chiptunes (as usual). Right now, the ripped .vgm soundtrack of Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000, for the Sega 32x, which, in my opinion, is a quite epic and heavy rock chiptune soundtrack. Lately, I've also been downloading and listening to some Atari .sap tunes from
the ASMA Atari XE/XL database. I'm surprised that the tunes sound as good as they do; I thought the Atari music would sound like boring QBASIC PLAY tunes, ie, pure square waves with no real variation in tone. Atari was before my time (born 1992), still, the older technology is interesting.

(I recently found and bought a functional Atari 130XE computer at a local Goodwill store in August, so I've been quite interested in Atari history, emulation, and homebrew creation via Atari-BASIC lately .

Wye Oak - Civilian

I recently started (and got caught up on) The Walking Dead, and part of this played towards the end of one of the episodes in season 2. I really love the mood it sets, and I've found myself listening to it on repeat for a few days now.

Randy Newman - It's a jungle out there

Yeah... it goes well enough since a couple of days ago they aired the final episode of Detective Monk.

Also:
WHY?
Seriously, how did this song manage to get stuck all day in my head? Why this one? It's not even that good in this incarnation.
In the other incarnations though ...
