I haven't posted updates here in a while, and boy, do I have quite a few from the past.![]() Staccato Eastwood. I used this screen to show off the new things in the status bar: SEALS: There are four of these to collect throughout the hack .. but what do they do KS: Key Spirits. Use these to purchase levels, effects, and game-enhancers from the shop (pictured later) INV: This is where I tried to be unique, and it worked. Thanks to some painful SRAM hacking, I was able to implement items that stay with you forever. The first item you can obtain in the hack is a rope - similar to Wario Land 3 after you get it, a bunch of areas in previous levels will open up, in which some lead to other levels! No more of this "find the other exit right away thing"; you're all over the place in this game. ![]() Staccato Exodome. More ASM fun here. The yellow, green, and blue blocks are part of a rather tricky puzzle. ![]() The Melancholic Mart. This is where you purchase various goodies with an X amount of Key Spirits. ![]() S. S. Sorrowsong. Lead the wrecked Koopas to their graves. Also, don't complain about how gravestones aren't realistic in a sunken ship D: ![]() One of my final submaps, which you can only access through a very unique way which I won't spoil. Showing off the new level icons here. The "coda" (symbol on the left) indicates a level that has a seal in it. Of course, the only way to break these seals is to play a specific melody ... eh, more on that will be covered in the next demo. ![]() The main overworld, pre-icons. You may also be interested in this video. I'll let it speak for itself. Finally, here are a couple new songs I have made since updating this thread. You may be interested in hearing them. "The Key Mirage" "Exo Mechanus" "Melancholy" "Twinkle Skyway" That's all I'll show for now. A new demo is extremely close, and I'm hoping to will nail the interests of the players. That has been my goal since July. Comments, anyone? |

| Well, I officially can't wait to play this hack. I love your idea of making it like Wario Land 3, I remember that game. I like how you had to backtrack to random levels after collecting items, and I think implementing that feature in your hack will make things much more surprising. I like the market, but are you are able know what you are buying? Right now I just see blocks showing the amount of Key Spirits needed to buy the item. Do you just have to be surprised as to what you're buying? I'm looking forward to seeing these "effects and gameplay enhancers" you can buy . Will the market be available in the next demo? And I'm not going to complain about the gravestones on the ship. ![]() |

Oh my god, Kattwah's layout works!
-------------------------------- Originally posted by Tyty210 Well, that's not really an accomplishment, considering the quality of the Legato Fail series ![]() Originally posted by Golden Yoshi I've used the message boxes to work something out. It will probably reference you to an external TXT though because, due to SMW's limitations, I can't expand the message box area (or not without some really extensive work anyway) The shop will definitely be available in the next demo .. I think you'll be able to buy about 4 or 5 items by the end of the demo (out of a total of about 15) Originally posted by Spontaneous Madness "Key Spirits" themselves are tied in with the whole storyline. If we're getting down to a technical level though, it's an ASM hack I made that uses the unused bonus star counter as a tracker for exits (as in, every time you put a key in a keyhole, your count goes up by 1) I figured that would be a bit boring JUST like that though, so I did some more fiddling to make it so that you can earn K.S. other ways too (I.E. finishing a certain task, finding well hidden items which grant you them, etc) And yeah, that's about it Glad to see that hack is making you guys giddy. Hopefully it will deliver what you're looking for. ____________________ |

| Absolutly fantastic. You are really having your way with SMW. SEALS, Key Spirits. permanent inventory items, superb custom music, custom level icons, new game puzzles, !00% new and very nice looking overworld, an actual theme that you keep throughout the whole game! I really cannot wait to play your new demo SNN. |

Oh my god, Kattwah's layout works!
-------------------------------- You need help if you listened to SLF for that long ![]() (for those who don't know what it is, this is SuperLegatoFail.) Anyway...: ![]() One final status bar picture. The 8x8 rope (yes, I had to cram a picture of a rope into that tile) will stay with you once you get it from a certain event in the game. Also, there is a new "I" icon which stands for Items. These are NOT permanent, and will show a Yoshi coin icon when collected in a level. ____________________ |

Nice! It would be neat if you could make the item portion of the status bar show different graphics for the items in each level (e.g. in the frost gem level, it would show pictures of gems).

Oh my god, Kattwah's layout works!
-------------------------------- Originally posted by pieguy1372 That actually wouldn't be too hard at all. It would simply be a matter of loading a different set of graphics depending on the level, and have it load a gem tile. Only problem is, I would need to make every quest item in the game separate, whereas currently, I can keep them all as one :\ ____________________ |

Heh, that method for doing that was what I was thinking of as I posted that. :o
Regarding having the seperate items though, that would be what makes it so neat. ____________________ |

Oh my god, Kattwah's layout works!
-------------------------------- Here's something new I'm going to throw at the table. For those who have an SPC, I highly recommend you fire it up. "Discord Bells Toll" - Final I managed to import Gregorian chanting into this to make it the most evil song to hit a hack in a long time. I'll be using it for a completely ruined city full of undead and the like. Comments? EDIT: Tack two more on to that: "Shrines of the Lost" - Final "Dissonance War March" - Final Enjoy. ____________________ |
